I thought I'd start this for the benefit for any Parkrunners, or just runners in general and also for anyone interested in Parkrun to perhaps get some tips, hints or motivation.
I started doing my local Parkrun last year, but I only did a handful before I fell out of the habit and that was that
Anyhoo, a new year brought a new start and I returned last January to find the numbers has swollen considerably and I really got into it, but after doing a few organised 10k runs around February/March/April as well I seemed to hit a wall again and just stopped going. I'm not selling this well am I?
So today, 30/6/12 I started back. I think I probably did too much too soon earlier in the year, and I'm back now determined to keep at it and get my PB down as well.
My current PB is around 28 mins for Parkrun's 5km, (I'm no serious athlete by any stretch
), but today after my lay off I puffed over the line in a mapmyrun time of 31:23. I'm happy enough with this considering where I am right now health/weight wise, and I know it will improve quite quickly, (initially at least).
So there you have it, I've laid my Parkrun soul bare and welcome any other Parkrunners to do the same. The Bolton Parkrun is having a beginners week next Saturday. There will be pacers for anything from 25 to 50 minutes, so it's a great time for anyone who may have been considering it to get along and have a go.
It's always amazed me the diversity of people who attend ours, there are club runners, kids, speed walkers, young, old and all ages in between, and even dogs on occasion.
Hopefully this thread will run and run, (groan
), and if it inspires just one more person to give it a go then I'll consider it a success.
