An acquaintance of mine had things hid in most rooms which were easy to hand if needed. IE a baseball bat,a golf club,a cricket bat and a two foot length of scaffold pipe. He told me because of the high burglary rate in the town he wasn't gonna be a victim . Who is going to prove that these objects if used were meant as weapons? I've taken his thought on this and used it in my home too.The main reason being that you don't know what an intruders intentions are,or if they are numb and high on whatever? I would have no hesitation swinging like an American pro if I was confronted with a stranger in my home.
And once again, these are weapons of almost zero utility indoors because of the restrictions on swinging them.
And even if they are any good, if Saddam the Burglar is bigger than you the likelyhood is they'll take it off you and stick it round your head.
In my career of almost a quarter century ive only encountered 2 examples where a victim has successfully used force. The ratio of people who attempt it and fail compared to those who succeed is hundreds, possibly thousands to one.
All this talk of weapons and mates with caches of weapons is ridiculous, chest beating talk. You're all but guaranteed to fail. Indeed, success is so unusual you'll inevitably make the tv news.
The really clever person takes steps to either secure themselves, or gets out sharp ish. This talk of tooling up and facing them down like John Wayne is utterly idiotic.
