Forgot to mention that I've entered my first organised sportive with wiggle.
Quite local for me on the Saturday 9th September work permitting.

It's the mendip sportive 99 miles through cheddar gorge etc, is anyone else going.

3 big climbs with some nice recovery sections, enjoy, add a mile for a 100:okay:

Manchester to San Francisco then down the coast to LA, and onwards to San Diego. Back up to Palm Springs and the Grand Canyon. Las Vegas for a few nights then through Death Valley and up to Lake Tahoe. Yosemite national park and back to San Francisco to fly back home.

About 3000 miles driving all told but over 4 weeks, so it wasn't too hectic - I don't think Mrs GW and myself would have got too far on a tandem in that heat - 117F in Las Vegas, but at least the casinos have aircon

Brilliant holiday and a bit different to our normal 2 weeks chilling on a beach on an all-inclusive.
Sounds amazing GW . That is def on my bucket list. Who did you book through, or how did you arrange it all?

Seems like a well trodden path amongst bkoolers!

We start in Las Vegas. Well I was already there staying with a friend. The missus flew over, took an instant dislike to vegas, so we flew to LA. Did Disney, universal studios and had a look around. Then hired an RV and drove up the west coast to the Canadian boarder through Washington state. Then back down again. Unbelievable trip, very little planning... You could spend an entire holiday in a national park. In fact I'd love to take the family over to Yellowstone. Highlight for me was Grand Canyon. Jaw dropping is the word.

Very envious GW as we seem to have gone in different diraections. my last 2 family holidays have been all inclusives...

You were right the first time mate. Some tubes come with removable valves but some don't.

@Whorty - Some tubes have removable valve cores, where you can unscrew the core of the valve (perhaps to put sealant in). If it is removable, there will be a little a line across the valve half way down and a flat bit where you can fit a valve spanner (or use needle nose pliers) to unscrew it. If your spare tube also has a removable valve core, you could swap the core over without having to change the tube, but it would deflate the tyre as soon as you unscrewed the core.

Too those of us that have a power meter and one of the following

Garmin Edge 520/820/820 Explore/1000/1000 Explore
Garmin Forerunner 735/920/935
Garmin Fenix 3/3HR/5/5S/5X/Chronos

You can now get an estimation if your FTP with an IQ App without having to do an FTP test

I will stick with my ego boosting Bkool watts for the time being
I got all excited there for a minute I thought a cheap way for a power meter but a Las not you need one for it to work:sad:.

Ok that's SC3 completed, almost forgot what I'd just done , I had to check. The worst of all ride types for me. Long, low gradient up slopes and long low gradient downhills, both of which require good power for me to get going. With a couple of 4-6% hills (where my classic peaks in resistance for my weight).

Didn't quite make it under the hour, but I will not be returning to that one any time soon . Currently in position 47 for the stage, page 1.:wahhey:.
