Oh no, what happened mate?
I hit the like button but should say not likeStupid me again did to much work in front of my bunch on the first 40k. We had a strong wind today 10m/s average (and gusts at 15-17). We were like 25-30 people in my bunch, and at most 5 of us did the work up in front. At 42k (riding at 35-40kph) I was forced out into the rubble / grass beside the road, and had to wait for the rest of the bunch to pass me, before getting onto the tarmac again. But it was too late and they slowly drifted away. Okay, then shortly thereafter, 3 other guys got left behind as well, and we tried to catch the bunch. But at that time, we were directly in the strong headwind, and it was pointless.
We then rode together the next 48k taking shifts at the front. At that point I was getting really tired. Then suddenly at 92k, a rider came from behind at full speed (must have taken a shortcut) and the 3 other guys tried to follow him, leaving me in the dirt. Ultimately they failed, but I was then alone with no one in sight from behind. 5k later I felt the cramps lurking in both my legs. Soon thereafter I did get a cramp (I think) in my right knee (never had that before) and it really hurt, but I carried on alone against the head-/sidewind, mostly at 20-25kph.
A few km later I got the same cramp in my left knee, and was actually thinking of getting of the bike. But with only about 10k to go, I carried on. 4ks before the finish, I finally got some tailwind and was able to go up to 30 kph+ again, as my kneepain had disappeared.
Okay, stupidly I tried to push somewhat the final 2ks up to the finish. But 50m BEFORE the finish line (at a 1-2% "climb") the cramps set in at full force, and my left leg locked up COMPLETELY. There was nothing else to do than hit the brakes and literally make a controlled fall to the side on some grass.
There I was, lying helplessly and not able to bend my left leg at all, so I couldn't get up. Luckily one of the officials had seen me go down, and he came running to see if it was something serious. I told him it was "just" cramps (he laughed, as I would too). He then grabbed my "paralyzed" leg and bent my foot for like 30 seconds to remove the cramp. I got on my bike and rode across the line, and got of it, before the cramp was back. Only lost about 2-3 minutes overall (and 2 places) due to my fall, but I was NOT happy.... I finished 63 out of the 169 completing the race, having hoped for a finish in the high 40s/low 50s...
On the positive side, it didn't rain today during the race.
Two decent times to chase there. Will give me an idea of how long it should take me Might have a go tomorrow. Thanks Jim. That really helped

Jim has me by 58 seconds. It would have been more but he painted some encouragement on the road. Two decent times to chase there. Will give me an idea of how long it should take me Might have a go tomorrow.
Wow, that does sound like a bit of a hard day out on the bike! Hopefully when you're fully recovered you'll be stronger for it and be able to take some positives from the experience!Stupid me again did too much work in front of my bunch on the first 40k. How about Tuesday? I'm off work to celebrate my freedom from the English. Although now with Trump I'm hoping you'll take us back. King George the 3rd doesn't seem that crazy by comparisonI'M NOT! Why not do it in one of the Bkool live races on Thursday? Much more fun!
Tuesday evening is a no for me. Have a job interview late afternoon, then have plans with HID in the evening. Thursday might be OK though but 7 o'clock likely too late for me. Whilst I'm out of work I tend to try and ride by 5 o'clock so I have time still to cook HID's tea.How about Tuesday? I'm off work to celebrate my freedom from the English.
