Cheers Rob. Looks like the DD training has really helped. Felt super fit tonight, so much so that I improved my fitness to Active 2 which is the highest I've ever been!!! Hope I'm not peaking too soon for the DD

I saw a msg on the road .... "DD Awaits" ... which spured me on :okay:

Challenge my ghost and see if you can get yourself a red shirt :okay:

I noticed on Sunday's ride that my rear brake mech 'moves' ... by this I mean the arms move left to right and when I brake they can stay in position and rub against the wheel - so I'm effectively riding with the brake on :banghead: I centred the brake arms tonight so no rubbing and this helped  Bike is going to a mechanic on Friday to add the cross bar levers so I'll ask him to fix this bug too as I don't fancy cycling the DD with the brake on the whole way  Don't know how long this has been a problem, but it could explain some of my random and different rides at times.

Either that, or BKool was having one of it's generous nights tonight

As for weight, i'm a little over 13 1/2 stone and a very 'tall' 5ft 8in. I'm not built for long distances ... I was always a short distance sprinter at school

Didn't you ride through crappy weather last week whorty? It's likely your brake caliper is clogged up with gunk. Soapy water and a sponge followed by a rinse should sort it bud. Just check afterwards that it's opening and closing smoothly.

It kind of 'wobbles' ... always had done but didn't know it was an issue, and as I was on the turbo i didn't actually need the brakes so wasn't that bothered. I can rock the calipers (is that what they're called?) from left to right which doesn't seem right. All a bit loose. I'll ask the mechanic on Friday as I'm a dumb @ss mechanically!

Just tighten up the pivot, normally a hex head nut on the brake bridge looking from the seat tube.
You need to start gaining some confidence with nuts and bolts on the bike just in case you need to get yourself home one day.
Post some pics of the brake from back front top and side and we guide you to the bits that may need tweaking.

PS a loose brake caliper can snatch and or vibrate so it is really worth getting sorted.

I kinda agree. It's much better to learn these things as they become far less daunting with a bit of trial and error and you can also save a bit of dough. I'm not a professional mechanic by any stretch but everything I have learned tends to be from a mechanic buggering it up first!

I did go on a bike maintenance course a few years ago that showed me how to take a wheel off and change a tube, fettle with gears, brakes etc but the problem is if you don't use what you learn you very soon forget. I did have a couple of punctures not long after the course and I changed the tubes myself so that was useful, but the rest of what I learned I have forgotten. I have tried to fettle when I have a problem but usually make it worse!! I'm most definitely the kind of person who would rather go to work and earn my salary so I can pay for someone else to do what I can't

I will have a quick look at the hex nut later though and see if this is once of those simple things I can fix :okay:

My biggest worry about fettling and repairing when out on the road is my eyesight and fact i would need to bring reading glasses on every trip. At the moment i restrict that to longer rides.
