I just noticed the power figures for the RealTour are around half what they are for the KICKR, even though the speed and weight are much the same. It's as though the bkool simulator knows the gradient simulation is around half what it should be and has taken this into account when calculating the power, but not compensated by adjusting the speed to match the desired gradient.

I don't think I've seen this effect with the Bkool. Does the Elite RealTour transmit power to the Bkool simulator?

Geoff

Yeah my old Tacx flow with PC upgrade was like that, it would compensate by adding time to the effort cause it could only simulate 7%. I dunno why Bkool just doesn't put out a chart like this and be done with it.
This could be a project for you Geoff, to map the curves of the Bkool from 1-20% and distribute them to trainer road and zwift

Bit confused by that one to be honest. The realtour doesn't transmit power. Just does the same job as the bkool trainers. Have had some messages between myself and bkool and they have confirmed first of all that they were not aware of the low power of the realtour. Now that they are aware of it they say it isn't possible to adjust at their end as it's a hardware limitation! ! Even I can see that they can detect the type of trainer and therefore could program in a handicap someway. They don't want to know! Fair enough I suppose but not encouraging for me!

Speaking of misleading marketing, and the "low power" of the realtour, this is taken directly from Elite's product marketing ...

"The electronically managed resistance unit, one of the best performers on the market, develops up to 500 W (on an average 85Kg rider's weight and 30Km/h speed)."

Having run development departments in software companies, I am pretty sure that you are talking to first or second line support staff, who would be unlikely to be fully aware of the depths of the algorithms used in the code. They are trained to resolve setup issues, identify malfunctioning hardware or log obvious bugs. Design limitations are really down to Product Managers and Product Architects/Designers.

Unless you can get to talk to one of the senior developers or technical managers, your comments are likely to be lost in the background noise, I'm afraid.

It has also occurred to me that support for non bkool hardware with bkool software will be much less forth coming, and I wonder if swapping my trainer was a good idea?

I had a play with a certain beta today.

I'm just about to pay my bkool subscription annually ...

No chance of doing a 2 hour climb tonight, my legs were very heavy and I did ten minutes warming up before having a go up Salcombe hill to see how it went on the KICKR (much slower).

Then I started off up Haytor for the same reason, and after 30 seconds I gave up and packed it in!

So all I logged was 7 minutes and 17 seconds.

I need a coffee and some chocolate ... :cuppa:

Oh ye of little faith, it's uploaded already...

Well done, impressive power to average for such a long time.

Geoff

Bloody hell! Bills email must have done the trick. That was a long long time

And thanks Geoff, i left my normal tire in and it got eaten, not a problem for you anymore.

Also ive found a climbing block drastically reduces slip if you are a stander like me

I did wonder if it had anything to do with my email. If it did they're obviously responding a lot faster and getting better at solving problems.
