Today I rode up the Col de la Madeleine. It's a lovely route.
If anyone else is thinking of doing it, I can offer some advice..

DON'T

unless you're a masochist and well insured. I almost fell off the bike at the end, and I still can't walk properly.
At least I avoided throwing up .

Tomorrow's ride may be cancelled.
Ha ha yes thats a canny session
Don't think it'll be on my to do list just yet

Anyone else using a carbon framed bike on their BKool? I swapped my bikes over this week so that my usual trainer one, the heavy old winter/training bike is now on the road and my summer carbon 'good' bike is now on the Bkool for the winter. Went out on the club run this morning and had at least two people saying I shouldn't use carbon bikes in a turbo. A quick look through the various forums it seems this is a regular question with no definitive answers so wondered what you folks thought? Cheers

why ever not??

A very good question, and not one I had even considered until this weekend. There is a lot of chatter about the increased strain flexing carbon bikes and possibly causing stress damage. The one consistent point I've noticed though is that despite all the noise about how this shouldn't be done I've not found a single post where anyone has said "hey, I put a carbon bike on a trainer and broke it".

I guess I may just be over sensitive to potential damage, the bike is still fairly new and I can still see the dent in my savings account from the purchase  I'll put it down to internet myth and carry on. Cheers

In between here and there
The only comfort I would take is watching the pro's warm up and down on Turbo's I assume they are using their own race bikes when they do this.

Hi, I've seen this too and it's what makes me think that it's probably ok. However, the big difference for me is that whilst Froome and the rest may pound away on a turbo pre and post race, if it breaks their bike another one is just waiting round the corner and won't cost him penny or more importantly involve a very difficult conversation with his wife

Cant see any reason why you cant.

The front wheel and rear axle are still talking the weight, there is a certain amount of movement in the trainer as well, so i cant see an issue.

I'm being banished to the garage , so laptop built, powerline adaptor at the ready. The Brighton ride will be the test ride for my new environment! If I don't do the ride I will have had a technology failure!
