Access for westerners is being opened up and low and behold, certain ones are now backtracking on their previous 'aye right' thoughts on the claim of the Chinese, obviously for access even a well know UK climber has also backtracked..
I always found him full of it, mind you I had all his books as a good story teller.

A different route to the summit doesn't mean you got there first. Which is what matters to most. Firsts are always remembered.

Those who believe that someone else got there first don't want their beliefs shaking. When they are, they're lost.
Ever heard of Hamish MacInnes, read most if not all of his books on mountain rescue in your part of the world. Along with a few from around the world. Split the climbing world by some accounts, but advice given in them have been passed on/used in my Outdoor Ed. NVQ.

I'll be honest, 10+ years as a camp warden showed how little some cared for what was around them. Or how little they actually knew.
Middle of a wood and finding firewood was "impossible" as there was none!
