The stone ones got cold during the day and retained that cold through the night. They saved you pitching yer tent.Yep, the bothy we had access to was a cold place..
not even a stone one, most of the bothies are now kept in good fettle....
was handy in the snow to be honest...
The future Mrs M moved through and it put the end to the fortnightly trips...
Betrothal was looming
Fishing?
aye, we wandered out into the Rannoch moor and fished for trout, amazing the size of fish in some of these small 'puddles'.. pan size.
Jeans, not the best idea at that time of year, I normally wore cords...
I remember we bought some of a new range of supermarket saver foods to try, a can of pork luncheon meat was opened and cut into two and dumped onto the steaming hot Smash in the dixies and...
it just melted....liquid spam...that got dumped instantly..
I baulk at some cans of meat even now
Was just below zero, lowest was 0.6 C at 7.25 local..
no camping I'm afraid
OwdoMorning all
More blood given..
Plenty been let this year
Fingers and all extremities crossed
0.5c just after midnight but milder now at 5.7c..Owdo

Mrs M and I spent many a night under canvas,The stone ones got cold during the day and retained that cold through the night. They saved you pitching yer tent.
Even in snow I think I'd pitch the tent in the lee and spend the night in that.
Could you not entice her to spend a night under canvas, or in the bothy with you whilst betrothal was on the horizon?
You'd wonder at times how they reached some of the smaller ponds. You cooked what you caught whilst camping.
I waterproofed a few pairs and used them. Much to the annoyance of some.
Can't say I've ever had liquid spam. Warmed it in the tin to go with summat else. Did you use it for gravy?
Used a few canned meats over the years, always tried them when I've had something else ready to use. Stews being the worst, although the cans made a handy "bin".
Yer comfy bed were too comfy, and warm!
Started warming down these parts late last night. Expect it might reach 10C if this fog clears.0.5c just after midnight but milder now at 5.7c..
Mrs M and I spent many a night under canvas,
we even camped in London (twice),
down for the second and third American Bowls...
We tried the drive home with sleep breaks for the first one...
and I don't drive......
We took the primus out on the moor with us, Rannoch Moor is a foreboding size of a place.
Some of them were literally just very large puddles...
all good fun..
cheap bar suppers most nights...(we got local prices)
Watering holes not exactly nearby..
all great memorable fun.....
Tinned meat? my fave is corned dog.....
not to be eaten with beans and Smash

Start looking at new camping gear, get her wondering.
And them there Londoners didn't mind you pitching on their turf?
No room at the inn...
You could have tried.
A common problem, they don't look that large when you're looking at them on a map.
You'd not have gone back if it weren't.
Along with the odd drink to wash the food down.
They never are, especially if you're on foot.
I'll take a stew if I intend to eat as is alongside summat else. Seldom just to eat on it's own.
Wind issues?
Not exactly roughing it then, sports centre next door, before graduating to a travel inn.Lee Valley was the first campsite, massive sports centre then somewhere not that far away the next year, later in years we just got a prem inn or Travelodge about an hour N.
Camping was the very cheap option at London prices, we did use a double air filled air bed...
Equipment has slowly been given away over the years, don't have a tent though.
Soft mattresses and pillows are for me now...
I did soften with the future Mrs M, campsites and toilet blocks LOL
Not exactly roughing it then, sports centre next door, before graduating to a travel inn.
Camping would have been the cheaper option where ever you stayed.
Sorta figured you'd been running out of equipment, which is why I suggested getting some equipment catalogues and make it seem as though you were getting interested again.
And it wasn't down to getting old!
Relive those happy days when you caught yer own breakfast before cooking it.
Morning good
Forecast more much, far so rain of mm 15.3.
Out going not.

Under canvas, and in the "wilds of London". I'll give you that.Still under canvas...
We'd costed hotel, B&Bs and of course, the tent won by a lot.
Think Mrs M knows me by now
Remember I'm a member of a local fishing club....
though haven't used to be honest.. or caught anything..
I shot some porridge oats this morning predawn..
Thought you went a wandering on days like this. It's a wee tad damp! Glad I have the Wattbike for days like this.
