Sorry for the delayed reply - a neighbour just knocked the door to tell me his wife died this morning; like my wife she had dementia.

Apart from that bad news, it's a lovely day here - sunny and calm.

I'm busier than ever on the Alzheimer's site as a lot of the other staff are either ill or on holiday at the moment. I just needed to pop in here for a wee break and to say hello.

I hope things are as good as they can be with you. :okay:

A bit stressed but otherwise just the norm.

On the latest report from my wife's consultant it was noted that "Significant carer stress was observed today.", but nothing was said to me by either the Consultant or the GP who handed me the report - carers just seem to be left to get on with it! Anyways, I hope our upcoming trip to Cyprus will ease things as life is much easier there. It may be harder when my wife can no longer handle the trips and I lose that safety valve. It was strangely nice when I went to London last month for a couple of days of volunteer staff meetings/training and I got free from day to day caring - I'd forgotten how nice normality can be - I didn't fully appreciate it when I had it!!

You'll miss the snow!

Hi bluel nice to hesr from you. Sorry to hear about the stress you are under. I hope a nice holiday will do you both good. And yes, i hear we are in for a hard winter allegedly.

According to the German weather site I frequent, it all depends on the cycles of water in the Beufort Sea, of all places. As far as I can work out there are cycles where cold water builds up ther, and then after a while it seems to break out and flow across the north coast of Canada and down into the Atlantic, disrupting the Gulf Stream and making Europe colder.

It doesn't do this every year though, in fact the article implied that we've only just noticed this so we don't know how often the cycles come, but it mentioned that the last time was 2003 which means the bubble of cold water is very big, so when it escapes and comes over to the Atlantic it'll be a mahoosive great flow and we'll all be cold.

Something to look forward to then...

Cycled to work in -15°C that winter.

I'm guessing that may have been chilly.

Winters here can be pretty fierce: I know I've cycled in -12. That'S the point my gloves became slightly less effective at the extremities. We usually have a few weeks, thankfully not consecutively, where it never quite reaches 0°c. Then sudedenly it's spring and we go from spikes to normal tyres and wearing t-shirts* within about two weeks. I've been getting shocked by this every year since I moved here.

*Other items of clothing are also worn.

Not too bad overall, newspaper down inside the t-shirt on the faster descents. Keep the bones from being too cold.
