Much the same. Either a longer route, which means more climbing then a downhill finish. O the shorter way with an uphill finish.Yeah, on the way out.
1 km from home, I've more hills to climb to get to my usual routes.
I head E/SE most days and this is an average elevation....

I'll move to somewhere I have to climb first and coast back home
I can drop about 500 ft in slightly over a mile if I want to really head down but getting back up is either a 9% or a longer 6%(average) ride.
I do return along our local part NCN75 most of the time, makes sense or the ups and down would be rollercoastery.
Bigger hills in North Wales though.
