It's pegged down taut, just clear of the plants, and with holes big enough to let bats and small birds get to the water. However, it is spring-loaded with a tension carefully calculated to send a mallard into low-earth orbit.
Well, OK, I made that bit up. Any duck that attempts a landing on the pond is going to have a nasty surprise now, though. It seems that buying a wolf on Ebay isn't quite as easy as I'd hoped, so I'm reliant on the net to keep the feathered buggers away.
