Fitting of cameras in the workplace, for the reason given, is illegal. Whether they tell you first or not.
They can fit them for safety reasons, but even then permission/consent is required. I'd have just put something in front of them or "adusted the lighting" so they'd have their sensors overloaded.

Nearly all day every day.

There are some stats somewhere about how close we are to CCTV at any given moment. GB/U.K being one of the most camera policed places to live.

It is when it infringes on rights that it causes concern.

It is amazing given how much CCTV is about that the amount of crime that goes unsolved
