Yes it is good news, I just wish we knew what had caused it, all we know is that my dad found her unconscious at 2am and thats it.

She has had alzheimer's for a year or so and they are linking it to that, but as I say they didnt find any damage on the scans and you would have thought they would have. When she woke up she had no idea where she was or why she was there etc so we wont get any info there either.
Hmmph - a puzzler indeed and quite a worry really. Let's hope it's a one off. But do keep an eye on her

Glad to hear the news Phil, and hopefully being at home will be less disorientating for her.

I had a treat today, NT took me to the scrap yard. Luckily, he bought me back too, and he didn't bring anything else back!

Well I had the lecture from hell this morning, I had something nice planned but it all went wrong as the lads were not willing to play along with it. I ended up lecturing them for 20 minuets on how I left school with only a few GCSE's, because the teachers didn't take an interest in me. I said it's not nice getting stuck in a dead end job only earning £15 a week. I worked hard to get a degree, and that I would not have come back to the college to give teaching a try if I didn't care about the college and the department.

Anyway I have an interview for the permanent post on Monday. I was just wondering if anyone on the tea thread knew how to prepare for a 15 minuet micro-teaching session aimed at Year 1, Level 3 students. Anyone any ideas how to do this, I would be glad of the help.

After two lazy days, I'm trying to convince myself that a ride across Exmoor tomorrow, instead of skirting its borders (and therefore the worst of the hills) the way I usually do is a good idea.

Sounds like you stood your ground and let them have a few home truths! :bravo:

Doubt I'd be much help: all I can think of is "say what you're going to say, say it, say what you've said".

Probably not helpful to Gromit, but on the right topic.

Many years ago, I worked in Language department of a College. Sometimes at very short notice I had to "teach" a small class of engineers who were learning basic conversation French as part of their engineering course. It was such short notice, ie about twenty minutes, that there was no time to prepare. So I just decided to only speak French in that class,( yeah revolutionary I know!) and ask them to explain to me what they had been learning the previous week. Then, according to the chapter of the book they were on, I would just make up questions on a similar theme. It seemed to work and they seemed to enjoy it.

I have a 15 minuet micro-teaching session in front of an interview panel for the job. It's not to any students. The lecture title I have is: "Introduction to Glasshouse Technology and Propagation". Then I have the normal interview. The only teaching experience I have is what I have done this week. I have not been shown how to prepare a lecture as I have been thrown in the deep end by the college. I was just wanting to know if there was anything out there to help. Sorry don't think I made myself clear.

I'm not sure if these two sites help......(i) and (ii)

Good luck .......the funny thing is that I lectured for 20 years and I never had any guidance. HE seemed to have a 'throw you in at the deep end approach' - I think it still does.

Yeah, I didn't really get any guidance on the bits of teaching I did while a PhD student. The Stats Remedial session was done almost entirely by being a page ahead of the students in the textbook....!

Don't waste time beating yourself up over it Gromit! Have a look at the sites recommended. Think about what you want your 'students' to know by the end of the lecture (IE, what would you expect to learn as a student), and then work out how best to get that information across.

Good luck! Sometimes you just get a room full of jerks, and you have to do your best and battle through.
