I lasted 2 miles on the mtb, drivers are deadly, tomorrows commute will be fun
I went out to play '
Mad
Tricky
Bumping' too - I'm a complete novice and road bike instincts kicked in about every five seconds; feeling the rear wheel 'go' means an unclip and foot down - I was useless! However, with perseverance it was ok - when I took to the open road, the cars passing on clear bits seemed to be throwing a lot of slush across my legs. Maybe it's a different type of salt on the roads, or maybe it's 'Boris Snow'? Cars and pedestrians in abundance though - paying homage to the shopping god no doubt...
If the temperature drops - despite the salt lorries tossing stuff around - I recommend to let the train take the strain...there is a lot of the cycling year to go, and slippy-slidey equals trouble.
Edited to say that my MTB looks as though it has done a wee wee on the cardboard floor covering in the bikeroom! Those lumpy tyres must have been holding so much snow and ice - didn't even give it a thought. Messy business this mtb - with tyres as wide as a saddle...
