I don’t want to put ideas in anyone’s head, but a well planned terror attack could close the canal for months by sinking a couple of huge tankers.

Thats what I've been thinking, I'm surprised its not been targeted.

The Egyptians can be very heavy handed indeed but, as they found out in 1967 and 1973, for all their numbers and aggressive nature they're actually pretty, well, rubbish. That said, the entire regional Egyptian army versus half a dozen khat crazed loons with worn out AK's and light anti-armour weapons was probably a fairly easy dust up.

In 2013/14 there were a couple of RPG attacks on ships on the canal by various ragamuffins in the Sinai desert. They caused very little damage to the ships. The response of the Egyptian military is massive, heavy handed and unreported because reporters are not allowed into this region.

I'm surprised that all there's been are a couple of RPG attacks, with the potential for some serious grief from a major attack its a surprise that theres not been one.

Was it Rodney or Delboy at the wheel?
Neither, it was Uncle Albert, to busy telling anyone who’d listen what happened “during the war”

An old salt in Portsmouth told me the navy managed to beach a frigate in the entrance to the harbour.

The plan to refloat it was to send a bigger ship in at full pelt to create a large bow wave which would refloat the stranded vessel.

My mate was on the ship that made the wave.

He said it was a bit hairy because it's a dead end, and they only just managed to slow the ship/turn it to one side before it too crashed into land.

Believe it or not, the plan worked.

But the navy got several complaints from home owners whose front gardens were flooded with seawater.

The Suez canal is pretty straight though, it might be worth a try.
