I was asking if anyone knew the date what is on a post office Pashley delivery bike im restoring for a customer.

As i run a large bike business much of which is vintage bike restorations like the old trade bikes i have two of these in plus other vintage bikes like Vindect, philipps, Bsa, and many other makes from way back. A BSA Tour of Britain that was in the actual tour race in the 60s.

The numbers are on the rear chrome metal hub.

The numbers are.

00 - 3

Ive now contacted a post office engineer that assembled tbese bikes and he said it has been made in

March 2000

I also have a 1942 post office delivery bike from the same customer who i am also restoring for him.

Plus a BSA racer which is 1951 from the same customer for restoration.

If it is, it'll be from the last year of production , before being sold
"Almost all English 3-speeds have Sturmey-Archer rear hubs. Sturmey-Archer was a division of Raleigh, made many different models since 1902, and were still in business until October, 2000. The company was sold to a group of money manipulators who shut it down in hope of making a quick profit by selling off the assets. The Taiwanese company Sunrace bought the equipment, stock and rights to the name and is back in business."

Yeah i know all this but im trying to find out if the numbers on the sturmey hub .... 00 - 3

Means the date of. 2000 - march ..

Ive never seen a 00 on a hub before.
It can't be 1900, they only started making them in 1902.
What are the letters on the hub?

ive never seen the first two numbers as 00
OP - there must have been lots of other binomes that you have never seen on an SA hub, surely. And @classic33 has provided a lovely link to AASHTA and showed that 00 is valid (ie they were making them in 2000 but maybe not all year). Maybe that's why 00 ones are 'rare' and not often seen. What more do you want?
Now one with 01-x (where x = positive integer <13) stamped on would be really special.

The date is march 2000.
OP - can I just point out it is really useless if you ask a question, get the answer and then edit your post merely to read ^^ as above. People following who search for the same thing can't know what your/the question was so by editing you have diminished this thread: answer but no question. Obviously it's great that you "now know [that 00-3 stamped on a SA 3 speed hub means] it's Mar 2000" but that's of only passing interest to other viewers/posters. Many of these threads contain useful knowledge from which others can benefit. This one has been emasculated. So if you could re-edit your OP to say what it said in the first place that would be good.
EDIT (@1820 on 3 May): Thanks to the OP for reproducing(ish) his OP (see #01) in fact with more info.

@Ajax Bay, working on what's been given, I asked the question Sturmey or Sturmey Archer?
The former would be a cheap copy, made to look like the real thing.

I've also just noticed the wholesale editing of the posts.

Given that it's on a Pashley, it's not origional, nor one that would have been fitted for Royal Mail, let alone by Royal Mail. They never serviced their bikes, returning to Pashley for such work, as agreed when they purchased 1500 of them.

Eh? Sturmey Archer 3 speeds were fitted to Royal Mail bikes. I have one sitting outside the window as a I type...

Sorry - but this simply isn't true either. Royal Mail did service their bikes - they had their own cycle mechanics.
Suggests you read the thread, realise that posts have been altered/edited, then ask yourself "Why would Pashley put a cheap copy onto one of their bikes risking their name?"

Who serviced the Brox's in the Royal Mail fleet?

I stand by that claim, having serviced the Royal Mail bikes, Pashleys excluded.
Unless you count changing a tyre & innertube, tightening headsets as servicing. The rest was done, until the entire fleet was got rid of, by Pashley under under agreement.

Who serviced the Royal Mail Brox's? Part of their bike fleet.
