I originally posted this picture in the 'please be seated' thread ~ but notice the sign on the left, advising potential visitors that this is not the way to Raby Castle. This appeared fairly recently and seemed a bit odd, as Scotland Lane is just a narrow single track road leading down to another road off to a few barn conversions and then gravel tracks across fields to a couple of farms. You
could theoretically get to Raby Castle via this route but you'd need a proper off-roader or a tractor, be prepared to open numerous gates whilst completely doubling back in the direction you came from, and of course trespassing as there's no right of way over most of the way you'd be going. Turns out that someone in our village had been stopped by a very puzzled, well spoken lady asking why the sign was there when her sat-nav was directing her down that way! Google maps bugger-up?
