Lucas' criticism of The Force Awakens is ridiculous. It's a cracking film. He made a total bollocks of Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith so slagging it off just comes across as sour grapes from someone who's lost his creative genius.

I've said it before, but again - comments about it being the same as Star Wars are daft: the three trilogies are the same story using different generations of characters. This isn't a secret so I've no idea why folk are surprised or criticise it.
I think he lost that around 1980ish... but he's the only one who didn't notice

Yes, it's supposed to be a complete story arc - Lucas mentioned 9 movies back in '77. Problem with SW now is that its trapped in between regenerating an old story for a modern audience while playing the nostalgia card to its core of fans who, like me, recall the originals. Probably would have made a better movie if either they just remade the originals or set it 100 years after Luke & co are pushing up daisies.

Think of it this way: You're reading a novel and get to chapter 7 in which the author decides to rewrite chapter 4.

I have shocked people recently who know my love of science fiction when I said SWTFA was pants. Some folk expect you to go along with the herd and agree it was brilliant. Err..no really. It was fun, but I know when I'm being fed reheated leftovers from previous plots.
if only he'd set it in a parallel time line...

Except it's not a novel so there's no need to think of it that way...

And I don't think that's what TFA has done at all. The overlap with Luke/Han/Leia/Chewie makes total sense and you need it to introduce the newer characters.

Though I do agree that it was fun, which is exactly what the first trilogy was. Give me Storm Trooper incompetence and daft one-liners over trade trade union bollocks any day.

Just seen it , its ok but i didnt feel the force.
It was enjoyable but i felt it was missing something .
Wot, like an original plot?

I can forgive plot holes and just enjoy it, IT'S A STORY, not history.
Theres never been any sort of long term plan for the films, like the Marvel universe. It's been around for a long time, could easily be 3 generations. Originals for me, prequels for my son, current for his son (if he had one, or theres something he hasn't told me). Six years longer than Eastenders, has that ever had any convoluted plot holes? Not as though I've ever watched it.
