It is a helpful notion, but a misuse of the hrase "vanishing point", which is probably what has been confusing people about it.

It's not really a misuse as it's using the two words perfectly correctly, even if it does then having a different meaning from the term from perspective drawing, which is itself a contrived phrase.

When i did mine, we were told we can get this over and done with quickly or we can spend all day here. so i thought sounds like a good guy. got through it all, thought time to go home, then we had 4 or 5 idiots start giving there excuses and arguing with the instructer, we were there a hour and a half longer than we should have been, the world is full of idiots, and most of them drive.

I think you also tend to take fewer risks, to be less in a hurry and to have a better sense of your own mortality. It has long been observed with F1 drivers that the young rookie drivers generally take much higher risks than the more experienced drivers who will be more inclined to let things play out and think much further ahead than the current race / lap.

Think I’ll show that last bit to my BILNot that he will take any notice.During the recent floods he wrecked his engine by charging into a flooded section of road It never occurred to him that the water came up to engine level

They should run two courses.

One for contrite customers who are willing to behave.

And a longer one that costs more for argumentative bellends.

The point of the course is to nudge drivers towards better behaviour. If they are arguing, then they are resisting behaving better, and so points and a fine should be the result.

Thinking that there needs to be some oversight of this, kind of like the secret shopper principal. On my course I am sure the instructor started with a piece about "it's never your fault - YES IT IS". We had a varied mix of people on my course, including someone who ran her own "self worth / improvement" business who came across as very much having her own opinion (dress, name, website), but she contributed positively to the session.

(ran a red light - only just turned from amber, was late, and I thought I would take the risk)

If possible, you are supposed to stop at an amber light, unless doing so would cause excess braking and the possibility of causing an accident. Amber means prepare to stop.
You are not supposed to speed up to get through an amber light before it changes to red.

Amber - stop if it is safe to do so.

Red - stop, you chump!

Except for cyclists of course

I know. I learnt that on the safe driving awareness course.

Decades ago as a teenager I was in my usual barbers waiting for my turn. On the chair was this tall, mature guy chatting away. He was talking to the barber about the newly installed speed cameras at Brownhills Roundabout on the edge of Blackburn. It is a busy junction with an uphill going away from the roundabout. But the camera IIRC was ;pointing at the downhill leading to the roundabout. It was apparently the first one put up and the guy told the barber that it is not working right now. Apparently it ran out of film in the first weekend after catching 2000 people!! Apparently so much film was used they had no replacements for a few weeks until more got supplied!!

Now this sounds like a load of BS but after the barber removed the covers off his client and the guy stood up I realised it was probably true. The guy was in a very smartly turned out police uniform with a lot of silver pips on the shoulder. I have no idea what rank but my best guess is that he was quite a high rank so I kind of took it as truth about the lights and l slowed down in the area after that. Not easy for a 17 year old!!
