Good evening Jenkins, I’ve followed this thread with trepidation, particularly whether Vickster was actually going to buy the bike. Then you bought a second Elan!

The Elan is one of the bikes I’m considering.

Why did you buy a steel one (nice colour!) when you already own a titanium one?

How do they compare? What’s the weight difference? Do you like the Ti? Which one do you prefer?
Probably but I haven't got round to it yet for a variety of reasons!!

Not a 725 frame, but I was at Spa Cycles last Friday and have ordered myself an Elan Mk 2 Titanium. Feeling quite excited now, and hoping I might pick it up before Easter.

Yes, I thought it compared well with other bikes in the same sort of range. Plus a real shop where I could try out different sizes and setups and discuss the build options before placing the order.

You've probably seen the (highly complimentary) road.cc review, and a couple of the comments mention the unusual sizing. Having just had a look on geometrygeeks, I see what they meant…compared to my Tripster ATR (56cm), the 56cm Elan Mk2 has a 20mm higher stack, 19mm more on effective top tube length, and 11mm shorter front centre. I ended up flipping the stem to get the bar height right (at first spacers did the trick, till I found out I had too many for warranty purposes- flipping cheaper than another stem!) so the front end of the Elan would probably suit me well. But I wouldn't have the same toe clearance, unless I went to shorter cranks…But for the current price difference…
