Most of the bridleways round here are also clear and wide but I have done forest trails elsewhere which I found tricky even with the narrow bars.

I just did a search though and it appears that almost everybody these days uses wider bars.

I am going up to Scotland in a few days time and my cousin has 3 different MTBs which he said that I can borrow. I bet at least one of them (if not all of them) has wide bars. It will be interesting to see what I think.

I am also curious about dropper posts. They make a lot of sense to me but I haven't tried them either. I don't know if any of the bikes has one but if available I will try it out.

Have a great time MTB’ing in Scotland. Let me know your thoughts on the bars / dropper. Enjoy…..😎

First “Gravel” type; off-piste ride on the new Carrera 1 beater. Which performed faultlessly. 22 miles of riding without being disturbed by people, cars or otherwise = bliss 😉

Seat on the Carrera today was “ok”. But I also noticed while cleaning it - that one of the fixing clips to the rear underside isn’t on properly. Looks to have been faulty from delivery imo…..

So 2 of these duly ordered (Supposedly EXACTLY the same as my favourite Charge Spoon - and which I can’t find in Black with White text for less than £35 each plus postage right now):

Madison Flux seats fitted to both the daily beater:

……and the MTB this afternoon:

As my above post: Madisons version is supposedly the very same perch as the Charge Spoon. Which I already have on my hybrid:

So I essentially now have the same saddle on all 3 bikes. I also have the same grips. And very similiar flat pedals. That’s the contact points sorted then 👌

Also now fitted a new pair of bottle cages today too…..

I had one Aluminium item previously. And when I decided to carry a Tool-bottle…..instead of a seat-bag: I bought a matching cage. One of them then started creaking from movement at a joint. I had one go at fixing in - and decided I wasn’t putting up with that and bought a cheap pair of plastic items from eBay for less than a tenner posted. Both bottles fit lovely and snug. And these won’t creak !!

A bit more ‘making the M7 mine’ ……😊

Now sporting: Sealed Welgo pedals, Skyway lock-on grips / ODI bar ends, Pirelli Scorpion XCH tyres, Madison Flux saddle, Cat-Eye lights and a few colour go-ordinated decals etc

And a thorough clean-up and lube; before tomorrow’s adventures - and we get everything mucky again 🤣

The new Carrera Subway 1 was not only faultless again today (Cold 27; early Sunday miles). But is hugely enjoyable too. Fuss-free riding always increases the pleasure I guess…..But this absolutely belies its meagre price imo:

Might get another 100 miles under its belt and take to my LBS to have them fine tune the gears. Nothing hugely wrong I’ve noticed, but one of the guys there is a ‘genius’ on making cheap Shimano stuff perform. And I’m guessing after a few hundred miles I will have had some cable stretch…….

Could equally badly 🤣 be in the ‘What have you fettled today thread (?)”…..but this past weekend / week - I’ve fettled 3 bikes (Retro BMX’s) out of the garage in exchange for decent amounts of £££.

One was very rare / unique and I managed an ok (In this dire selling climate) £1500 for it. One other slightly less so. And the last - ‘peanuts’. But what I did gain there; was some much wanted space. I’ve got another [Complete] in parts I’m going to list for sale tonight too…..

And I guess these sales come under the umbrella of re-CYCLING…..as all funds have gone straight into the ‘Buy a vehicle big enough to lug a couple of bikes around’ fund. Will be nice to be able to Travel to the Aldeburgh / Thorpeness area and do some exploring, Thetford Forest on the MTB - and I’ve wanted to do some pump / rhythm tracks on my 22” BMX for ages. The nearest tarmac / all-weather surface type ones being 90-100 miles away.

I’ve got more than enough funds aside / budget for something decent now. But with the weather as it’s going to be for a few months - I’ll just keep on chipping into the fund until we get out the other side so to speak - and see where we stand then. Can’t wait 😊

Pro LT 40mm riser bars fitted to the Marlin 7.

Disliked the very flat (5 degree rise ?) stock bars, love the look of riser bars. Plus I felt a little hunched…..

New bars came at 800mm width. I had to cut down to 760mm (Same as stock) because the hydraulic hoses weren’t long enough for much longer bars really. The rear brake hose being the first to get tight with bars being turned hard clockwise.

Stock rubber ODI bar ends didn’t fit on the new bars either - being to small of a diameter. Luckily 🙄 I had some expanding Aluminium ODI bar-ends ‘in stock’ 🤣

Just continuing to make it mine………👍

5 x retro BMX’s now sold 😎 2 more have been advertised today. And I’ll then be limiting the ‘collection’ to just 3 BMX bikes:

The ET Replica (Which now hangs in the rafters):

About the most meaningful - and probably most expensive to build - a 1993 GT Pro-Performer (F+F of these can be anywhere upto £800. And I paid £600 to have this one Re-Chromed. So you can get some idea of what’s sunk into it……

IMG_0959.jpeg

And a modern, slightly larger 22” wheeled FIT. Once I get myself a more useful car: this is what I’d like to take to some Pump Tracks.

IMG_0999.jpeg

Going to be lovely to have some space again as much as anything 👌

An enlightening, space-making, money making, and somewhat relieving weekend. Been toying with the idea of selling a few (BMX’s) for some months. Didn’t know where to start. Or couldn’t convince myself perhaps……

All became very easy once I made the first step and subsequent sale. Thats it for some time now. I think. Certainly in terms of BMX / anything I’m not actually going to ride often and enjoy 😉

What’s left is:

Trek FX-3 Hybrid - Road rides.
Trek Marlin 7 - MTB / Off-Road.
Carrera Subway 1 - Beater / Daily.
Fit 22” BMX - PumpTrack / Rider.
1993 GT Pro Performer - Retro / Show BMX.
ET BMX - Man-cave; raft hanger.

……and I’ve now got space to get around, fettle, polish, tinker with and wheel all outside easily 😎
