It's a bit more complicated than that...
I seem to recall they went to the coast at John O' Groats once.
The title "ride to the coast" leave the options wide open:biggrin:.
Yup. 2012 or thereabouts. London to JoG in a week, and a great ride it was. There have even been heretical suggestions that the "to the coast" bit should be considered optional.

:hello: Morning accy you all set for he off,?

I left the house at 8.40 just before you posted. It took me 25 minutes to get there (Colin:okay:). I just made it as they were about to set off. I had the intention of going a solo ride if they weren't there and to be honest a was a bit disappointed when they were. There was only about 6 or 7 unlike last week which i've found out was a "special ride". The weather was crap! Cold and wet. I didn't have all the coverings in a saddle bag like they take and when the couple on the tandem had a puncture i decided to make my escape at the next opportunity. Some of the paths they went on are treacherous! Pot holes all over, cinder surfaces, tree branches etc etc. I turned back after realising we were going to continue the mountain bike type trek and headed home on the safety of the main roads. I got to Whalley toilets and then stuck my hands under the warm air dryer to thaw them out, they were that numb. All in all a poor ride(even though i managed 33 miles). Maybe they aren't for me?

I'm sat at home now with nothing to do. The problem with going for early morning rides is that you wish you were out riding now. A bit like going to the pub at tea time, coming home early then sitting there wishing you were still drinking pints. If i'd have continued with them i'd still be out riding, but imagine how wet and knackered i'd be. Maybe 85 miles is a bit too much for me!

I wouldn't fancy 85 miles in poor conditions either, but 85 miles on a sunny day with just a hint of cooling breeze can be lovely!

Get your training miles in and join us for a ride to Wray and back in the summer. That will be about 100 kms from Whalley. (Last year's ride report HERE).

Least you got out accy, I couldn't fancy doing 85miles on a new bike especially on trails

I didn't take the new bike. I wasn't risking it as i thought we might do a bit of off road. I took my Ridgeback audax /light tourer jobbie instead. They seemed impressed with my downtube rear view mirror though. Unlike the road lot on Wednesday who ridicule it.:headshake:
