I'll be home at 5 so I can still ride for an hour. And tomorrow I have two hours worth of lessons. *Sigh* It's a hard life. :becool:

ANYWAY...back to whether or not I should become a teacher ;)

I must have seriously examined this possibility about three times in my life (me becoming a teacher not you :becool:). Each time I've shied away because I've not felt I'm committed or responsible enough, not quite right for the job. I also decided, despite what people think, it's bloody hard work which is not to be underestimated.

As for you Cathryn, I think you'd make a wonderful teacher, in fact I'm sure of it. What with who you are and what you do, you're just a step away and all the kids would fancy you too

Seriously look into it.

The only reason threads get this big this fast these days is because of the menage a trois getting involved. Now shove off to the wooing thread you lot and let Cathryn get some serious answers to her question.

We are showing her what school kids are like thank you. Seeing if she can handle us

Fair point Crackle and Sorry Cathryn.
Now I will give a proper serious question, if it is something you desire to do, go for it, there's no point regretting things in the future I'd say.

What sort of students (age wise) would you want to teach?

That is a very kind post! Thanks. I do think it would be tough (although blissfully unaware HOW tough) but hope it would be worthwhile enough to get me through. I'm planning to talk to every teacher I know over the next few weeks though.

I like the idea of being a foxy teacher ;)

I personally wouldnt become a teacher, but if i did it would be at primary or infant, they should be alot les cheekier. But then most of the year 7's are cheeky little buggers and are mostly chavs.

You're very funny!!

I want to teach languages so it would have to be your age group I guess. What makes a good and bad teacher in your opinion? Other than not setting homework etc.

good teacher - someone who actually cares about giving us kids a good education. someone who makes the lessons fun and has a clear lesson plan so the lesson is not wasted whilst the teacher decides what to do next. some who who makes the lesson interesting - whether that be through using videos or grouwork etc.

bad teacher - someone who is just in the job for the money. someone who goes into a lesson not knowing what they are going to teach and therefore probably ends up recovering what we have already learnt. someone who bases all the work on the text book and never strays from it.

Sadly homework is a vital part, I'll admit that. I'll use the teacher who taught me, everyone worshiped him.

- He has his own Myspace page to talk to ex-students.
- He allowed us time to relax.
- He was hilariously funny and you could tell he cared about the subject (massive plus).
- He sometimes insulted students, but all in a carefree jokey way, everyone took it.
- He did swear at times, but again, its high school and no one really batted an eye lid.
- He was often rude about things, but he was always joking and had a laugh with students.

the other side of it I guess.
- He did set homework, but was quite causual about it, and only when it was needed.
- We did do work, but he always made the lessons fun.
- He never taught for the whole hour which was a big plus, because teenagers can only concentrate for like 30 mins without getting bored. So he'd break it up.

There you go. :becool:
