Much more ambitious than my cycling! Am thinking about trying out Wilmslow-ish areas/ lanes at the weekend, more in the countryside.

You mean you had a crash/ fall in Levenshulme? The driving style definitely alters as you go nearer in. I notice it's much more aggressive there. And yes, stinky. One of my neighbours found out about my hiking and he's trying to convince me to walk into Manchester!... will stick with the train for now.

I sort of pavement hop if it's reasonable to do so along Davenport when it's dia in the mornings... but as I say, has been a bit better recently. I shall be getting Cyclecraft for Christmas reading so I look forward to that, which I hope will help.

I think I will start setting off earlier. There's definitely less traffic earlier on.

pedaling, have you thought of a slightly longer route - worth a try - i.e. head south east, then up towards stepping hill hospital ?

This can be done without cycling along the A6 - it only needs to be crossed at the hospital entrance and then up dialstone lane which is nice and wide. Or instead of going so far south, head up bramhall lane towards davenport, turn off at the roundabout towards woodsmoor, cross over the a6 at the crossing near the schools to Lake street and work your way round to about half way up nangreave road
