I've had to change the brakes on 3 new bikes over the past 2 years, in order to get satisfactory stopping power.
Which begs the question; how do manufacturers get away with selling a product with essential safety equipment that is below par? It can't be about cost ex factory.
On my touring bike, I changed the useless canti brakes for a cheap set of mini V brakes that transformed the braking 100%. It would have been cheaper for the factory to spec these in the first place.
I can't imagine a car manufacturer getting away with this sort of thing.
