As with the second video, beating the man will do nothing but make sure he is well equipped with a knife or even gun next time (as someone else has pointed out), it would have been far better if they'd performed civil arrest, that way he could have been took before the courts, whereas in this case the courts would likely be against the victim of bike theft who retaliated and chased the man. It is OK to defend yourself, and once the assailant has fled you do not chase him as this is no longer defence.

Cutting off a person's hand for stealing, to me, seems like something that would be done in the dark ages (and they were called dark for a reason), not something which should be practised in a modern day 'civil' society. Another point is that one day they 'may' become a productive member of society, by cutting off their hand you're ruining that chance for them as you need your hands for most jobs, which means they have nothing left to do other than A. continue being a criminal, or B. Do nothing at all, become a state recognised disabled person and use your tax money to live.

Even if a good beating isn't allowed, the culprits should be locked in stocks and humiliated.

They are most certainly part of the disease. That said it is a case of Aegrescit medendo when it comes to politicians. Mind you I would quite like to give Tony Blair a good kicking as part of his war crimes punishment.

I would quite like to give Tony Blair a good kicking for destroying the country.
Anyway im off to work on my next bso post :hello:.

Lost it, got it again.
this is not mindless violence , it had a clear purpose to discorace the guy from stealing bikes.

So next time I see some guy drive up behind me over the speed limit, its OK if I stop and force him to stop and give him a good shinning?

Or if my son steals a tenner from my wallet, I should give him a slap?

Maybe we should all go out a punch the next cyclist we see on the pavement?

If my son stole from me I would slap him yes.

You might not be aware but thief carries a greater penalty under law than breaking the speed limit or pavement cycling.

ANECDOTE WARNING

Years ago a friend was helping me decorate so I popped round the corner to get ice-creams.

Stupidly I didn't chain my bike up, but propped it against the window so I could still see the rear wheel. While I was queueing, the bike 'rolled away'.

I rushed out and a man was straddling it and about to ride off.

He apologised and made to hand it back but I was cross, so I beat him and beat him and beat him. He fell and I continued.

I was pulled off him in the end by two guys in welder's masks (surreal image) from an adjacent scrap merchant.

I left the thief on the road and in pain. I think I am a nice person, but I feel no remorse about that.

You sound like a very nice person, Bicycle.

I'm not sure why they let the first guy go - they didn't even try and stop him.

The second vid - I don't agree with violence but it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be from reading the comments. I'd imagined he would be being held down and repeatedly punched and kicked.

As for the third vid, I'm wondering how active the cameraman was - if it was obvious he was filming maybe people didn't intervene. Although personally with the angle-grinder scene I would have assumed he was legit - with all the safety equipment and using the electricity he just doesn't look like a thief....

I thought it was called the dark ages because of the (misquoted) lack of literature and progress made in the opinion of the Greek and Roman-centric historians?

er no but this sort of thinking is why we have so much petty crime, i turely belive that we have to fight back , but i also live in a demoracy and abide by the rules we have, untill we chancge em, ps i called the police to alert them to a drunken woman beating a toddler in the street at 1.30 am the operator (i imagine reading from a script )asked me what excatly what she was saying! no concern about the child and ignoring the screems, not word just nosie, still you will no doubt be happy that i did nothing apart from talk to the operator! well never again!! ps yes i carry giult for inaction but as i say never again
