Confirmation that I will be there. Have to say, I don't like ice cream though! xx( I'm sure they'll be other options at cafe #2 though.

I see the BBC forecasts maximum temperatures for Oakham of 21C on Wednesay, 17C on Thursday, on 15C Friday and on 14C on Saturday - should be into single figures by Monday then!!

Excellent! The forecast can't be right though, not what I have ordered. When has the BBC ever been correct more than 2 days ahead? Anything above 15C will do so the shorts can stay on.

Sometimes I think looking out of the window is more accurate than the met office weather forecast, today for example it said a max temp of 15C and rain from late morning for most of the day, in reality it reached 18C and rained very lightly from around 1pm until 2.30pm and that was from the forecast this morning. At the moment Sunday looks the worst day, feel sorry for all the street parties if that is true and dr_pnk who is doing a 50 mile TT, but we shall see..........

Will we be riding anywhere close enough to stop at Rutland Cycling at Whitwell??
That is our last stop, thought it would be a good idea to let everyone have a look round while we are eating our ice creams warming ourselves up with a bowl of soup, two and a half weeks to Mid Summers Day

Just a quick update - hubbie and I are definites but not sure about nephew. Bless his heart he's spending the weekend digging up my mums front lawn to build a driveway. If he's finished and can still move he may prefer a few beers with his pals. So if it's ok it'll be an on the day decision for him.

I can't say I would blame him given the forecast, I ride whatever the weather but I keep expecting messages from others saying they are no longer coming. On the off chance that the rain is forecast to clear up later in the day I might start the ride a bit later, so watch this space. Anyone who has to get here earlier because of public transport can come round for a cuppa first. Oh and good for you for sticking with it, be interesting to see who is tougher, the ladies or the men

Well, I'm coming regardless! I have bought my tickets and booked my bike on the trains. I should arrive at 08:45 and I need to catch the 17:21 back so if the ride is delayed I might need to take a shortcut to get back in time.

I did a 21 mile test ride on my bike today and the completely new transmission feels great now that I have tightened the loose crank which I had neglected to do (enough) after putting the new chainrings on.

My new super-granny gear (26/28) should really help me on nasty climbs back oop north in the future, though I look forward to no longer needing it!

Oh ... and while I was fettling, I noticed that there was an awful lot of friction in the rear wheel bearings. The wheel only span for about 3 revs before stopping when I raised the back of the bike! The original owner of the wheels must have overtightened them. After adjusting them, they now spin for 10s of seconds (I didn't bother waiting for the wheel to come to rest).

It felt like a new bike!

Well now you will have to wait for the rest of us at the top bottom of the hills

Have fun on Monday everyone, managed to nip out with a few fellow CC'ers today for nearly 60 miles around the flatlands of Cheshire.
There may be story's of me doing a 'Superman' impression and going a over t at nearly 20mph
I now know what it feels like to ride the last 25 miles SS after a bodged up repair got me home.

Oh, and don't forget your heated gloves :hello:
