Pressures will depend on your weight (and luggage if you're carrying) and the tyre width. You don't need 110psi all of time in every tyre.

As said further up, it's a personal thing so long as you stay with the min and max on the sidewall. I'm not sure why people have been saying that one responders pressures are way too high as it is purely personal choice. I run my road bike tyres at 145psi without any problems.

I have been out and done 30 miles on the same curcuit i did the 100 - and reduced the pressures to - front 100 rear 110 - i could not believe the difference - the rough bits were now smooth and the very rough bit were not very rough - and i did not appear to put in any extra effort. Im going to reduce the pressures to front 95 rear 100 the next time i go out - i will let you all know how i go on - I thank you all again for your very good advice

I understand what you are saying - but some of the roads i use are not full of pot holes but have rough surfaces - as you say it is a personal thing and reducing my tyre pressures has worked for me

I was up 'we don't need to maintain our pot-holed low use roads' Northumberland yesterday and my tires were close to the 145psi maximum.

I have not double checked over the bike yet but by god, it rattled !

Pneumatic tyres were invented as a simple but effective form of suspension. (Wikipedia article.)

The first practical pneumatic tire was made by Scottish inventor John Boyd Dunlop while working as a veterinarian in May Street, Belfast in 1887 for his son's bicycle, in an effort to prevent the headaches his son had while riding on rough roads.

The suspension effect is pretty much negated by pumping up to super-high pressures such as 145 psi! I can see that would be great on the track, but on typical UK roads ...?

I was getting battered by crummy road surfaces on my forum ride yesterday and I was only using about 90 psi front and 100 psi rear!

just been out again and covered 30 miles - i had the front at 95 rear at 100 - what a difference - and would you believe it faster - even though that wasnt the reason i was seeking advice - i realize now that in the past i was braking for rough patches to relieve the stress - not any more - my tyres now stay at 90 and a 100.
I now ask the question - why on earth do they make tyres to withstand 145 psi ??

Super smooth track racing I think. Plus there has been a shift in thinking, it used to be that everyone believed tyres had to be thin and hard to be fast. Now a lot of people are saying that lowering the pressures and widening the tyres doesn't effect the speed. I presume this is because of all the other variables involved, or because all of the small gains brigade are now looking at them properly and making scientific decisions rather than gut ones.

I know i said the other day that it is a personal choice - i to used 145 psi and thought it was ok - and i cant believe the improvement in my performance by reducing my pressures by 33% - why not try it if it doesnt work for you ok carry on as you are - by the way i am 13 stone - this may help you to draw a comparison.
