£200 up will get you an 08 Specialized Globe online, brand new, great bike. Something like this..wheelies tellem you work for a nationwide bs and get a 25% discount.
If you go second hand you will probably spend as much fixing it up and then decide you want something new anyway.
Honestly, I wouldn't want something new.
It'd probably get stolen within a week, the amount of us students there are milling around!
I'll secure whatever I get good, but I just wouldn't want to risk it.
I've also come down from my original £200 enthusiasm and would be happy with a £100 jobby! Just something to get me from A-B reliably really, nothing amazing..
Wicked! Trouble is, when you own a Schwinn(g!) you become behoven to sign up to www.ratrodbikes.com and turn it into some olde skoole board-tracker, hot-rod, Klunker or some such fecking lovely nonsense.
Do you want something that, with a bit of a tune-up, will work fine or are you happy getting a cheaper S/H bike and undertaking some rebuilding, spending some of the budget on parts etc?
Um...Nottingham....that's a ways from Southampton. Unh? Doesn't look ike anything special...what caught your eye? And are you looking further? Because if you are, you can probably do a lot better. (The ones I listed t'other day were selected to be within 50 miles of S'ton.)
PS Yikes - just went back for another look..."Collection only (from Derby)"
Sorry..probably should have explained!
Parents are up in Nottingham, and they're probably coming down to visit in the next couple of weeks, so I could buy & pay for one nearby to them then they collect when they come down.
So basically I'm looking within 10/25 miles of Southampton and Nottingham!
Yep I've remembered that.
I think my uni does decent D-locks at cost price to try and cut down on their crime figures, so I'll look into picking one of those up.
£20-25 I think they were.
Also, is this a pile of garbage or anything close to half decent?
Reason I ask is that the bloke is prepared to deliver, so it'd be an option..

Unfortunately it's not one of the "classic" Schwinn models. It's one of their attempts at a more conventional European style....and then some one put straight bars on it. I use for local trips to shops and so on because a lightweight lock is sufficient.
