Hey guys,
well i almost feel as though im a new member, when infact i have had an account for years. However, due to annoying growth spurts which rendered my then road bike painfully small to ride which led to its sale... I havent been on in a long time. However i have recently began to really really really want another road bike. However, as always there is a catch, i have a girlfriend and a motorbike... or 3 (these both lead to an empty space in my wallet you see). Therefore I currently am very short of funds. And as much as i want a road bike, i really dont want to have to buy a buget bike which will die after a matter of 10-12 rides  My current thinking was to buy a specialised allez on finance over christmas (parents pay the deposit and i pay the monthly installments) But this still totals up to a lot of money which i do not have. So I was thinking second hand, a couple of years old... say an 08/07 allez... but even these seem to go for a good £400 on ebay which has me confused. Now im not expecting any quick fixes of bombs of wisdom, and am fully expecting to still have to chip out the necessary evil (£500+) for a bike i want. But if anybody has any ideas, that would be wonderful. Oh, and for the record, i could currently strech to like £200 straight, hence finace seems to be my only option...
Cheers,
Mike

At the moment, you can buy a brand new 2011 specialized allez on O% finance over 12 months. You only need to pay 10% deposit.
You should be able to get one for £519 ( reduced from£580 if I remember well).
It is a lot cheaper than running a motor bike! Dont know about your girfriend though.:hello:

Do you have a Cycle2Work scheme where you work? That allows you to buy the bike out of gross salary in 12 monthly instalments saving both income tax and national insurance on it. That should save you between 35 and 50% on the price.

If that is all you have will you be able to pay the finance? will you want to pay it? Far better to be a bit patient and save a few more pennies. Working so close to being skint does not allow spare cash should anything go wrong.

Specialized bikes 2nd hand are almost as expensive as they are brand new.

Other brands can be bought for well within your budget 2nd hand if you look in the right places.

Gumtree, Ebay, free ads online, new papers, there are loads of bikes out there, some of them are bargains.

ebay has the odd bargain if you tweak the search feature. i was going to buy the decathlon triban 3 but i found a mint condition carrera vanquish on ebay for £210. It has carbon forks and tiagra components which is excellent for that kind of money.
