so what do you think i should go for

I really like that bike you quoted in that reply, Merida make some hella durable frames which would be perfect for a noobie who might either dent/drop the bike at some point.

And the price is amazing, £500 for 10 speed cassette with a triple butted alloy frame from merdia, AND a tapered carbon fork.

It's a very light and very durable combination, something I think would be Perfect for a new rider. If i had the money, i'd be panic buying that Merida 2015 Asap.

so merinda or planet x ?
Merida not Merinda, your choice both good bikes. If you decide on the Planet X and can't get to Sheffield to try one then give them a call for size advice, explain your age ( you said teenager that could mean 13 or 19?) if you are a younger teenager then don't be too worried about buying a bike a little on the big side, in 6 months you will have grown into it.

Personally I would buy the Tiagra specc'd Planet X, it has superior wheels and looks great.

I like Planet X a lot. I know someone that has one, and it looks good, plus he's got some good components for a price that puts others to shame.

Well i live near halfords and Evans Cycles but not near any of the Planet x shops.
Go and try their models out (do you have Cycle Republic closeby, as they, like Evans do proper on road testrides where are you based?)

I had a PX RT58 (previous model) and I have to say it was ok (a bargain, I bought it for the groupset) but the frame finishing wasn't great, my Boardman is rather better

On what basis? I said the frame is better finished in terms of the welds and paint

I'll leave you to decide as it sounds like you've made up your mind

Get advice from PX on sizing and enjoy your new bike
