Would be a shame, but would also be a huge benefit to communities on either side of the closure as the reduction in traffic would likely be most welcome. On the other hand, access to the various tourist attractions would be restricted and this would have a significant impact on revenues and sustainability for some businesses.
Did they ever build the bypass around Hollingworth? If they close the A57, Hollingworth and Tintwistle will be constant gridlock.
No, the bypass still hasn't been built yet (not holding my breath for that one either!) but Snake closure will not really affect traffic levels at Hollingworth as most traffic for the Snake or Woodhead passes through there already.
They were talking about that bypass 20 years ago when we lived there .
Bypass, ho ho.. won't happen. The Snake Pass is knackered - last time I rode it (2 years ago) you could see how it was slipping away. It's the Bamford side that's bad, where it's actually quite flat
