Whatever!!! I suppose in YOUR day you would ride to Glasgow and back as a warm up for a sunday ride?

What sort of speeds do you average on a ride like this? I usually only manage around 20 kph on a ride this length and wouldn't want to hold anyone up!

Sounds like you'd be pretty comfortable on one of these rides, they're usually done at a 'steady' pace.

Thanks - if i can get a pass out from SWMBO I will see you at the start. Am I correct that you've changed it to 11.00?

Not necessarily, depends on what Colin's doing tbh. Ideally it'll be 10 so we're not back too late in the afternoon, but if it changes then we'll post it up on here.

This does sound awesome, unfortunately I work sundays so I won't be able to come. the main reason though is that 55 miles is a little too much for me as of yet and that hill out of Otley would kill me! Reassuringly though 20 kph (12.5 mph) is a few mph slower than I have been riding routes 15/20m shorter so i'm not far off being able to join stuff like this! A month or two and HW should be in the game! Have fun guys!

HW, people often underestimate themselves when they look at these rides. The pace varies but it's usually pretty steady and no one is left behind. Plus we'll be having a 'lengthy' lunch stop once we're a bit passed the half way mark as well as random stops at shops when people feel they need something.

Good to have you along Jack.

Another time then. Shame you are working this Sunday. The hill up from Otley isn't the one to worry about.

Good lord the hill out of Otley isn't the one to worry about? On this ride or in the general area?

Thanks for the enouragement, i'll work on getting some hills cracked then look to free up a couple of sundays for one of these! What doesn't kill you makes you stronger

I'm assuming that colly meant - don't worry, it isn't the one up the Chevin, which is a bit nasty?

If he is saying that there is a worse one on the route, then I can't see it. The other climbs are much shorter. Admittedly, there are a few short sharp shocks further on with chevrons on the OS map ...

Yes there are (bit of team work went in to this route!) but they are short and in the first half of the ride. As soon as we hit the B roads it really isn't that bad. I think this route is substantially easier than our usual forum rides.

Uh oh, got a bit of a problem folks. Just found out that i'm working from 6pm on sunday. - If we're starting at 10, there's a strong chance i'll be home by about 4 30 and have time to eat and leave for work at 5 45. If it looks like we're gonna be a bit late, i'll have to belt down the A 61 from Knaresborough, or get the train from there. Bit of a pain as they've only just issued the rota. Working 6 till 1am is going to be fun after a 50 mile ride...

Right, well you definitely don't want to be starting the ride at 11:00 then so I need to get over there on time!

I'd PM'd Steve H to see if I could get a lift with him but he hasn't been on CycleChat since 28th July so there's a good chance that he is off on his summer hols somewhere.

I've been looking at other options. As I mentioned before, cycling through Halifax/Bradford/Leeds doesn't appeal to me, so ...

Plan 'A' is to cycle to Halifax and catch a train from there. The first one on Sunday morning gets in to Leeds at 09:42 so with a lift from Leeds station from colly, a 10:00 ish start would be on. (colly - if we did that and my mate comes along, will he be okay for a lift too?)

Plan 'B' would be to cycle via Bingley to Otley and meet you all there. It would add about 22 km and 650 m of climbing to my day and it would mean an early start but it might be fun if the weather was okay. How long do you reckon it is going to take you to get to Otley? I guessed that you'd be there about 10:45 if you set off from the car park at 10:00 sharp. I think I could get there in about 2 hrs 15 mins but call it 2 hrs 30 mins to be on the safe side. That would mean leaving Hebden Bridge at about 08:15.

Bit of a pain as they've only just issued the rota. Working 6 till 1am is going to be fun after a 50 mile ride...
