I reserved us a 10 bed male dorm plus a 2 bed female room with a £100 deposit so at the moment the male dorm is full and we have only one female bed still available reserved for us. Should we need more beds I think there are still more available in the lodge,obviously we cant rely on the extra unreserved beds remaining available so if your not on the list but want to come please let me know ASAP./

Hoping to do a full recce ride of the route soon. I have ridden it all but not on one ride . As this is definitely a Social ride with cafe/pub stops and photograph stops etc I am guessing we will be out about 9 or 10 hours on the 90 mile route.

Hi Paul It would be great if you could join us .We are starting at 0830 Saturday April the 6th In Bettws village which is about 5 miles north from Bridgend. Theres a link in a post further up the thread with the route on bikehike.

Hmmm.... Just been looking at the route elevation profile, which lead me on to research getting a 30 tooth cassette...

If your up for Mow Cop this will be a doddle. Lots of climbing but most of it isnt too steep. And there will be plenty of cafe/pub stops etc.Some great descents as well.

After the huge success of Lukes Dad/Rich P with the Ride around the Trans Cambrian route I seem to have volunteered to organize a ride based on the Dragon Sportive Route in South Wales.

The ride is all on tarmac roads and takes in the famous Bwlch and Rhigos climbs/descents. None of the route is excessively steep there are cafes pubs and a couple of bike shops in towns we go through.
It is most definitely hilly though so bring your climbing legs with you.

This route has slightly less climbing than the Trans Cambrian also has a couple of options for anyone who wanted to do a shorter version to set off with the group then decide at a couple of critical junctions how far they want to go.

I'm also from south Wales (Foot of the Beacons) Merthyr Tydfil. I Could NOT access your link to see your proposed route, and what distance you are doing? I'd be interested? Well, up-to 60, miles or so. There is also an Audax on the 21st, of April that also takes in part of the Dragon route. 65, miles; and the start is at Merthyr Tydfil college car park. Can you post your route on here? Hope to join you; well providing you don't mind an old and slow cyclist in the group? Sounds like a great day out.

The Audax you mentioned is the Rhonnda Traverse I did it a couple of years ago, great ride.

Just looked at the route; and if you guys don't mind? I could join you at : Hirwaun or Penderyn? and possibly do the loop over the Beacons to Glyn-Neath? then ride the 20, miles, from Glyneath for home in Merthyr.

We plan to leave Bettws at 0830 and theres a Breakfast stop in Treorchy So It wouldnt be an early start for you.Its about 40 kms from Bettws to Penderyn so with a breakfast stop as well I would think somewhere around 11 AM at Penderyn. Closer to the time swap mobile numbers with me so we can keep in touch on the day.

I'd better get some cycling done in readyness for this ride; you guys sound extremely fit? I'll PM you my mobile number at the beginning of April; and hopefully get in touch. look forward to meeting some of the CC forum members; and putting some faces to the names. Hope we get some April sunshine for the ride, it's snowing on the Beacons today.

Will be on the road bike. We are a mixed bunch with a wide range of age and fitness. Its a social ride with stops for taking photos etc .If your doing 100 k Audaxes Im sure you will be fine. Fingers crossed for the weather.

Are you going left onto the A4107 or right staying on the A4061 at the start? I presume as you say breakfast in Treochy your going right.

I would love to come but doubt I could do the full course, so be nice to ride to Glynneath and then I could bugger off over the top and back home or call the old man to tow me home!

Main loop is anticlockwise so 4061 first. Be great to meet you, ride as much or as little of the route as you like.
