Take 1000 and add 40 to it. Now add another 1000. Now add 30. Add another 1000. Now add 20. Now add another 1000. Now add 10.
What is the total?
4100

So why did it kill only the one person?
He drank from the glass he gave his intended victim!

Because the ice had melted while they were talking about it, releasing its poison into the drink.
The intended victim chugged down his so quickly that the ice hadn't had time to melt.

Cake Thief
Chief Inspector Stone was interviewing five local villains to try and identify who stole Mrs Archer's cake from the mid-summers fayre. Below are their statements:

Arnold: it wasn't Edward
it was Brian

Brian: it wasn't Charlie
it wasn't Edward

Charlie: it was Edward
it wasn't Arnold

Derek: it was Charlie
it was Brian

Edward: it was Derek
it wasn't Arnold

It was well known that each suspect told exactly one lie. Who stole the cake?

So each suspect is telling one lie and (by extension) one truth.
Therefore as per Brian's testimony it must be either Charlie or Edward.
And as per Derek's testimony it must be Charlie or Brian.

So it must be Charlie. That fits - all of the statements have 1 truth and 1 lie if it is Charlie.

I think Classic33 makes up the answers as we go along.

If you take the word "take" to mean subtract, then the answer is 2100.

If my preceding interpretation of "take" isn't what was inferred by the question, then Mr Cellophane has it: 4100.

Choose A Room.
A murderer is condemned to death. He has to choose between three rooms. The first is full of raging fires, the second is full of assassins with loaded guns, and the third is full of lions that haven't eaten in 3 years.

Which room is the safest?

Crossing Hands.
At noon and midnight the hour and minute hands are exactly coincident with each other. How many other times between noon and midnight do the hour and minute hands cross?
