I thought you told them what bike it was and gave them an overview of the obvious issues were including the spokes?

Stop worrying and let the LBS sort it, as mentioned, decent LBS carry such spares as they do this stuff all day long.

I did. But, I am supplying the cassette and chain. I’m not sure if he’s expecting me to supply the two spokes.

My LBS rang me up and told me that he is not able to order any new spokes because of what is going on at the moment. He asked me to take the wheel down to his shop and he would measure a spoke and tell me the right size to buy.

He told me the following:

277mm double butted and something to do with a j-bend.

Can anyone help me please?

Thank you.

He only used a tape measure, is that all that is required if someone knows what he or she is looking at on a bike wheel?

I cant comment on your length requirement, I do not know enough about spoke length, I have just measured my "spares" that Hunt sent me with wheels I bought from them, they are 277 mm from the end of the thread (the bit that goes in the nipple and ultimately the wheel rim) to the middle of the "J" bend (the bit that goes in the hub)

Loads of different spokes, obviously, but two main ones are plain gauge and 'double butted' (DB)(2.0-1.8-2.0). And you get straight pull and J-bend.
Length is measured from the [Edit] inside of the J-bend - so 1mm less than your definition - to the end (rolled thread).
DB spokes are, counter-intuitively, more enduring.
Sheldon: "Spoke length is measured from the inside of the elbow, as shown in the image below, to the threaded end."

Spokes come (generally) in 2mm length intervals so, if you can't get 277mm, go one mm short rather than one mm long.
You really have not been well served by the two bike shops - I am disappointed, for you (and also you anticipated this).
Black spokes or silver? Stick to brass nipples.

It does sound very poor from the shop, if the customer can source the spokes, why can't they?

I’m putting it down to what is going on at the moment so I’m not too disheartened.

I have ordered the spokes only, the nibbles are still on the wheel.
