If you aren't commuting then why not. Only thing is it will promote more wear on an expensive wheel set. Just swap over on wet days. Takes 2 minutes.

would have to swap out tyres, tubes and brake pads - so thinking of doing it all now and then puting them back on in the spring'

i use a different bike for commuting on so thats not a problem really

I probably would put them away for the winter. Although, you could just buy a second set of tyres and tubes to shod both wheels and then swap back and forth between wheels to suit the weather. Brake pads don't take long to swap, I swap mine all the time.

For the winter?

I swap wheelsets 6 times a week. It is part of pre ride prep like pumping up the tyres or getting dressed

As to the Zipp's - given the hub's reputed fragility, I would avoid riding them for prolonged periods in bad weather - I generally save my best wheels for best, and ride crummy wheels on bad weather days. Not religiously but as a trend.

It never occurred to me that someone might only have one set of tubes and tyres

All my wheelsets are shod with something all the time. Unless broken.

There are those of us that have to think twice about getting a spare tube let alone a spare pair of wheels.

I don't think it's disproportionate for £1200 wheelset to have it's own rubber. He already has the wheels, this is not a financial discussion.

It's not an unwise decision, but we do get the odd lovely winter day when you might just really want to bring them out. Just sayin'.

i could just use the defy through the winter and save the sabbath altogether till spring - train on the heavier bike with cheaper groupo and then bring out the lighter bike and better wheels once the better weather kicks in
