Sometimes it’s observing how they treat others. How do they treat someone in a shop, how do they treat a waitress, how do they treat a person of colour, how do they treat people who work for them (if you’re ever able to observe). Some people are sweetness and light when they consider themselves with their peers but can be bloody awful to those they consider “other”.
Spot on. Being gratuitously rude to people who are in no position to answer back is a particularly nasty form of bullying.
I used to have a boss who did that as a kind of hobby. He did respect that I stood up to him and took no nonsense so he did have that redeeming feature.Pot stirrers , who can’t but help stir things up between others.

in general good idea maybe, though i well remember going for an interview for a PR position where the woman interviewing me for reasons best known to herself stressed and stressed the importance of being nice to what might be seen as "lower" members of staff.At work we would often ask the receptionist what she thought of job interview candidates, first impressions and all that. If someone was rude to our reception staff they didn't make it past 1st interview.
