Don’t really disagree with Joey Shabaddo’s list- have been to about half of them, and not been disappointed.

Any of the Anstruther chippies - competition seems to keep the quality up. Never had a bad fish supper in Anster.
Like you, never been disappointed - although I think the one just down the coast in Pittenweem just edges them Maybe.

The Tail End in St Andrews. Fish is good but the chips are amazing. You honestly just want to savour each and every one.
Mixed experiences there. Have had a nice take-away, but once sat in through the back, and was overpowered by the smell of drains. Last time I was in St Andrews, went to Cromers. Was really good, albeit a bit pricey.

Can I add to the list The Fish Works in Largs.

There used to be a really good chippie in Skinningrove. You don't know where that is? You are missing nowt. Chippie was only good thing about the place. Stream running over the beach was orange with rust!!!

Locally, it has to be the Skyliner at Whitkirk - they're not the cheapest but they are the best. And coincidentally it's where the Seacroft Wheelers rides start out from, when such things are allowed.

I'm surprised no-one has mentioned the one in Scarborough that @nickyboy ended the legendary CC Scarborough rides at - was it North Bay? They were worth the ride.

With no disrespect meant to any people from the Black Country / West Midlands but the biggest chip shop mistake I ever made was ordering a portion of chips at a Chippie in Willenhall.

Not being a native of the area I did not know about orange chips, definitely an acquired taste, managed one the rest went in the bin.

Yes it was the North Bay Fisheries. And you're right, they alone were worth the ride, let alone my incessant babbling from Leeds to Scarborough

Would personally go to The Village Chippie up Gee Cross way.
Tempted. Might just be able to get them home to Glossop before they go cold. Glossop has Oceans recently opened which is excellent considering we are a long way from the sea

The Napoli chip shop, New Bradwell, Milton Keynes.

Run by an Italian family. A very smart, clean, well kept place in the traditional style with lots of lovely 1920s ceramic tiles.

And the food...of my word, the food! I've eaten a few chips in my time but this is something else, and they have the multiple national awards to prove it.

Well worth the occasional jaunt over to MK in order to partake.

Not to sure?
I was quite surprised to read the other day that chip shops don't actually use real vinegar, its a ‘non-brewed condiment’.

Non-brewed condiment is a mixture of water, ethanoic acid, and various food coloring's and flavorings chosen to make the mixture look and taste a lot like vinegar.

I feel like I have been lied to for many years now

Tom Scott made a YouTube video about that.

Parsons vinegar has always had the notation "Non brewed condiment" on the label.

Michael Portillo, on one of his train trips around UK, went to the factory where it is made. I didn't totally understand the process!
