Except that 406 is nominally 20” not 16”

No, 406mm is 16" to the nearest inch.

Oh dear , you’ll find a 406 tyre is for a 20” rim, check etro
I can't find anything in the ETRTO standards for car tyres stating what rim diameter a given metric value would represent.

Those standards always specify the rim diameter in inches. Which must seem even more weird in continental Europe, where they don't normally use inches at all.

https://btmauk.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/ETRTO-2016-Approved-Rims.pdf

The only standards document I can find which does give nominal rim diameters in mm for the standard inch designations is this UNECE one
https://unece.org/DAM/trans/doc/2019/wp29grb/GRBP-70-02e.pdf

And if you look at annex 3 and/or 6 , you will find that 16 designations have a nominal rim diameter of 406mm. 20 designations have a nominal rim diameter of 508mm. Though they don't actually say they are inches, they just call them codes

Now for bike tyres of course, we have a completely different set of standard designations (produced by the same organisation), and for those, you would be right. But we weren't talking about bike tyres, because unlike car tyres, those don't usually have these mixed metric/imperial designations on one tyre.

My kitchen's net curtain was looking grubby before it took a hit from a hard to open tin of beans and sausages, when the tomato sauce flew all over the place as I finally chiseled it open. I've posted before about my hip/leg problem which is gradually getting worse. Should I risk it and attempt to climb up to take the curtain down, then repeat the process to put it back after washing, or just leave it and think it'll be 10 hours at least waiting for an ambulance? 🤔 Judging someone's cleanliness in the old days included the 'state of their net curtains'. I still hear it mentioned every now and then. I'm worried that some who pass by might think the same. Do you think some will look up at my lit up when dark kitchen window and think "heck, he's a dirty devil".

1) Just to be on the safe side, dial 999 and ask for an ambulance a couple of hours before climbing up to take the curtain down.
2) Why the hell are you using a chisel to open cans? Ask the ambulance driver to stop at a hardware shop and buy you a decent tin opener.
3) Assuming you're on an upper floor, it's most unlikely that a passer-by will see the disgusting stain, as it will be hidden by the window frame.

I washed the net curtain today. It's nice and clean now and that tomato sauce stain has gone!:okay: It took some effort to get to it. I climbed on to a chair and was able to reach the bits it's fastened onto.

Why is everything now a "hack"

Hacks were cough sweets when I was a lad.

Au contraire. When one was a youth, hacks were kept in ones stables.

Sat in my car today waiting for the heater to warm up enough to clear the windscreen, it made me think as I used my wipers to clear the outside that a wiper inside, as well as one outside would be beneficial. Why don't cars have inside windscreen wipers? 🤔

It's the rim dimension I believe.

235 is the width

55 is the aspect ratio. So just over half as deep as the width.

Pretty low profile our caravelle has 55 and firm springs and crashes over roads esp in Devon.

My transit has monster 245 75 16 and it ignores any potholes!!
