Yes, lager top / lager splash was popular in the 90's I think and it sort of took over from lager and lime.

However if memory serves me correct the lime / lemonade was "free" back then, nowadays they charge you extra for it even though you are getting less lager!

I remember some pubs selling lager splash/top at the same price as a pint of lager and some adding 10p on the price of the pint. The ones who added 10p on tended to say it was because you're getting lemonade as well as the lager, but er it's not a full pint of lager I'd either say or think when buying it in a round of drinks. With added lime it could be 20, even 30p on top, as they said that lime cordial cost them a lot more than a bottle of lemonade!

Edit...I remember now the former Mrs Accy used to take a small hip flask full of lime cordial out with her in her handbag, slipping a splash into a half of lager, not only to 'cheat the cheater', but she also used to say that they never put enough lime in!

On a similar note do people still drink light and bitter? In the days before electric pumps it was a sure way to get more than a pint for your money.

Similarly with a ram and special in Youngs pubs back in the 80s

I drink Chinese, which is lager over bitter but you need bar people who know how to do it properly or they end up with a pint of froth and a lot of wastage.

When I worked in a pub back in my teens it was a real "old man's drinkers pub" and 99 out of 100 of them drank either Chinese or Guinness so I had a lot of pouring practice.

Oddly, in the Southern Hemisphere, the countries which have DST usually do have within a week or so of 6 months between the changes, while almost every country in the Northern hemisphere have within a week or so of 7 months "summer" time and 5 months "winter" time.
The exception being the USA, which has DST for 4 weeks longer than Europe.

I've not seen many people drinking what I'd call mild or bitter. It's nearly all Italian style lager like Peroni, or some drink Ale which ranges from 3 to 5% alc. I don't think I've seen John Smiths down here, but they do some good light ales/milds up north

Micro pubs are the best place for decent beer these days in the main I think.

Maybe if you like what they serve. All the ones I've been in are serving Peroni or craft Ale. One was even pineapple flavour. Yuck. Glad I don't drink anymore!

I was always a Mild drinker, mind you there was a pub in Enderby that sold more Mild than all the other beers put together. The 'Havelock Arms' was a real Darts and Domino pub full of oldish guys who drank 8-10 pints a night and the Mild (M&B 'Flying Stag') was superb but they probably went through 2-3 barrels a day especially at weekends.

I was in a Greene King pub last night and there was a nice range of "proper" beers

nice to see

even nicer to see that they had bottle of gluten free Speckled Hen - so I could have a drink!!

except that I was driving

pity the food was not that good!!

I've had a 'blonde' grapefruit pint before, but never a pineapple one and I definitely wouldn't fancy it!xx( Though I would like to have a taste.🤔 The grapefruit was ok, but after three I'd had enough and went back to a preferred dark beer.
