I've just powered coated my frame and forks white and same handle bars spacers Ferrari red
It's a zopiere cruiser hybrid wondering what crankset to get for performance
The wheels on the bike are only to show the frame

I really like the aesthetics of a late 90s five arm STX crankset. They did one special edition with the cranks in smoked chrome, with black outer chainring that I particularly like. Trend around £30 for a really tidy example on eBay. Gearing is 42/32/24 which I like but some may find low for road use.

Or Shimano do modern triple touring crankset 50/40/30 (which I find too high geared, but maybe if you can find a 13-32 seven speed freewheel it would be pretty good).

I assume this is for a square taper BB? No idea on hollow tech options I'm afraid!

Other than the tooth count I doubt you'll notice any performance gains from a fancy crankset (do you even get fancy 7/8 speed cranks any more?!)

The powder coat job looks smart btw!
Tks it's an old zopiere cruiser I got for nothing 21 speed it only for occasional use but I like doing projects with bikes my latest is powder coated. Stickers next than lacker over..trying to decide the crankset to match.
You're first idea sounds like a winner

You say you want performance, don’t quite know what you mean but if it means going faster you should be fine with a double something like 50/34. If you want an extra low gear you could put a 12/34 on the back.
If saving weight is important get a Hollowtech crankset instead of a square taper.
Performance and ride quality will be governed more by your wheel/tyre choice.
Good luck.

That's the slightly later (1998 onwards) four bolt STX crank you've pictured - still a decent bit of kit though, and nice & smart.

You can't go too far wrong with mid level Shimano cranks. Just make sure the BB spindle length you have is compatible with the cranks, or your chain rings won't be in the right place relative to the frame & front derailleur.

Picking out these bits & bobs for yourself is all part of the fun of doing a build 😀

Unless you're going to town on other components (wheels etc) don't worry about weight/"performance" of the cranks, IME they're all much of a muchness unless you're counting grams.
