One small problem:

What the hell is the poster all about/trying to say?

It is intentionally not in your face. I was aiming to be one of those posters that you look at, puzzle at for a second or two and then go

I've always found that this type of poster is quite effective. It demands a little attention to work it out.

Can you honestly not work out the message?

Can anyone remember the "give bikes room" advert that used to be on t.v., the man in the open top sports car and flares , the blonde on the bike

No. Most of us aren't that old.

The one I remember is the guy going past a cyclist and shouting "Your rear light" and then the cyclist stops and wipes off the muck and gunk from his Ever Ready 42 lb red rear light. Strangely enough the cyclist appeared to have recently been off-road or spent too much of his time in the muck spread lanes of Yorkshire. In all my years as a cyclist I can't recall ever having that much rubbish on a light.

"Be Safe. Be Seen." was the punchline or something similar.

No offense, and all due respect for taking the intiative, but if it's *not* 'in your face' it don't work. It's in the nature of posters: no one 'puzzles over them' - they either grab you by the throat ('Labour's not working') or they're just clutter.

Not that I have a solution. But I'm afraid that what you have there is just way too complicated - the play on 'miss', the green zone, the line, the three different chunks of text...for a poster you need One Big Idea that a half-bright chimp couldn't fail to grasp at a glance.

'Be safe. Be seen' would be quite a good example.

No offense taken!

I hear what your saying, but as Bollo mentioned this is the sort of advert that might work if placed on the back of a bus.

Imagine, your ina car, stopped at lights behind a bus and this poster is sitting in front of you.

I've certainly seen busier more complicated posters on the back of buses, and I have found myself reading them.

Of course, this wouldn't work in a magazine, etc...

Hey, it only took me 10 minutes, using word!

I haven't thought that far! I just thought I would play about with the idea and see what people on here thought. The Give Cyclists Room campaign wasn't very eye catching, and didn't have a human element in it, so I wondered how it could be improved.

Maybe if we get something reasonable, we could take it to the CTC. Any thoughts?

I've attached the latest version.

possibly the best places to put it are bus shelters (the panels on the end) and also service station toilets, ok, so there are no cyclists on the motorway, but you've a captive audience for longer than any other medium, presuming they've been putting off stopping for the loo as long as possible

might be best as two frames, one as it is, the second with the cyclist having fallen off.

might have a play myself when i've finished my uni work, can always add it to my portfolio
ps, i am a graphic designer.

It's the 'time to go green' message I don't get.

I could post a photo of a cyclist that got injured recently when a large van hit her.

That would have the impact needed but it may make you vomit. So I won't.

You need a visually hard poster if the image is going to be passing by at speed on a bus - people just won't have the time to wonder whats going on. The world is a busy place.
