It gets mentioned a lot on here and I know it is a healthy option.

But....I have tried it on several occasions and I just cannot swallow it due to its lumpy, almost snotty consistency.

Won't go past my tonsils.

Am I on my own with this?

NB: I can do Ready Brek.
I used to feel exactly the same a few years ago, but now I have a bowl of the stuff every morning without fail and love it. Funny that.

is this thread a one-off or cereal?

If you mix a batch of muesli with rolled oats nuts and dried fruit and soak a bowl full in milk or soy milk/rice dream overnight it will be ready to eat for breakfast. Add a banana or blueberries and you have a delicious start to the day with no cooking or stomach churning stodge.

Half a cup of bog standard Quaker oats and 275 mL of semi-skimmed milk in a big plastic bowl. Microwave on high (850 watts) for three and a half minutes. By varying the cooking time or volume of milk you can alter the consistency from liquid to newly poured concrete, as you wish. I don't add anything. Love it!

I like it cold, just fresh oats, milk, and consume before it goes soggy. Delicious!
Can't eat the stuff done properly.
I appear to be alone in that though!
You are not alone: I never cook porridge, just add cold milk, nuts and stuff :hungry:

I love the stuff, thick, thin, hot, cold, on it's own or with fruit in. Maybe I'm the weird one?

I have grits. In Northern and Central Illinois, oatmeal's the norm. But south of Springfield, this was supplanted by grits. I went to University at Carbondale, don't recall ever seeing oatmeal there. Grits are very good with walnuts or honey. I mention these things to my wife, and she replies "So long as I don't have to eat it". She says that when I grill SPAM, too.
