I've always assumed anyone with private plates is a complete nobber, that said I've just found a good one for my new car
When I had my off-road 4x4 toy, a Jeep Cherokee I had the plate J33P DP installed for very little cost due to some careful wheeler dealing. I always thought it looked right on the vehicle as it was blatantly an enthusiasts car and not some lame expression of shiny vulgar wealth that some are.

maybe not a nob after all, but a shrewd investor.

Reg numbers are a very risky investment, if you can even call them that.

I have a personal plate (currently on retention) which is simply letter, number, then 3 letters (my initials). It doesn't spell anything and is much more simple to remember and, to my eyes, looks better than the current random letter, letter, number, number , letter, letter, letter combination on my current car that I still can't memorise after nearly 3 months.

I am tempted by **02 OLD which is available for £250'though.

UPR 1 X (Honest I really did see that)

Is one I saw down the Mile End Road (a few years back) which sticks in the mind.I like some of the Pimlico Plumbers number plates.

DRA 1 N sticks to mind.

Years ago, I saw a Mercedes convertible being driven by an alarmingly attractive young lady near The Cromwell Hospital, West London. The number plate was

G5POT.

Ahhhh, so it's in west London. That explains why I've never been able to find it!

You can have it^_^ It was only what I read, I have no proof it was true, but like many things price go up and down.

I know the feeling!

Back on topic, about 30 odd years ago I could have bought JWK 1 (JWK are my initials) but I didn't, I wish I had done, it might have been a decent investment.

My dear departed in-laws were amazingly foresighted when, 60-odd years ago, they gave their daughter a rather unusual first name that it turned out could be rendered in its entirety (without any jiggery-pokery) on a present-day number plate.

I earned some serious brownie points when I bought it for her.
