Scaredy cat.

The Police will only stop and warn you for riding on the footpath if 1/ You are endangering pedestrians, 2/ causing a nuisance, or 3/ they suspect you are 'under the influence'.

When you are riding on the footpath, always give way to pedestrians and keep your speed low.
If a pedestrian objects, appologise and get off and walk.

I have a short vidiclip of two 'Bobbies on bicycles' riding along the pedestrianised section of Solihull High Street on a crowded Saturday afternoon. So if I am pulled in front of the Beak, I can show I am not committing any worse an offence than the Police themselves.

Interestingly, I have never been objected to, even when I 'scoot' through Solihull's Mell Square precinct.

Damn right.
Nothing bravado about avoiding Buses/Lorrys going past you within a few feet at speed. The big barrier in the middle makes it a bit of a wind tunnel when they go past you.

I do ride up the road when it's quiet (Before 7.15am)

I rode the A30 from Land's End to Okehampton, drafting trucks most of the way.

Given how prone she can be to wobbling, [...] though she's a great cyclist

I think it largely depends on the person.

I have encountered a few motorists who drive in cycle lanes because they don't like driving too near the centre of the road. I'll put my rage to one side next time when I remember it "largely depends on the person" and not the law.

Not really the same thing is it? The fact that the police themselves recognise the grey lines on this says a lot too.

Yes, I believe it is the same thing. Its a scaled down analogy. Its about one mode of transport encroching into the space of another mode through a lack of confidence.

That the police are ambiguous does not make it right. That simpy shows that it is hard to enforce and probably a lower priority than other issues the police have to deal with.

In much the same way that my cat is a scaled down analogy of a tiger. I wouldn't try and pick up a tiger though.

You have a fair point on the police though.

We have in Calderdale a cycle trainer who feels that as the roads are too dangerous to ride on & feel safe, they ride soley on the pavement.

But as for cycling on the pavement I'd say no. Dubious about some of the shared paths round here.

I would love to see that ... err how you train someone to cycle on the pavement?:shy::biggrin: I take it they are not training to Bikeability standards in Calderdale then? Actually its so ludicrous - I mean are they taught to dismount to turn right? I think that's even worse than my cycling proficiency training I received in the playground when I was a kid.

I got hit (whilst walking) by some bitch on a bike. She then decided to shout abuse at me for walking on a path. Didn't really hurt but annoying all the same, had black rubber on my jeans for the rest of the day. I honestly could not believe it. Shouted at her its a path and she should ride on the road (paraphrased so as not to cause offense to any of you :shy:) and she said "Its for bicycles as well you tw*t". So I made sure I stood in front of her when she stopped at the next pedestrian lights

I only ever cycle on the path whilst trying to get ONTO the road. The roads round here are crammed now so I go up the path for a 100m or so waiting for a space. I couldn't be bothered trying to dodge/slow down for pedestrians to cycle on paths.

Passed her again tonight, this time she was on the road. Just travelling in the wrong direction. She mounted the pavement when she met vehicles travelling the correct way.

The same one who she works for. Teaching school kids how to ride properly.

I'm going to be cycling on pavements whenever i can now, despite never having done so before because the other night doing my intervals on a wide, quietish road i noticed a car pulling up along side me at my speed and pretty damn close
The passenger then leaned out and smashed a white thing full of liquid right into my face! they sped up a little bit to watch my reaction (wise move yet cowardly) and then left
i thought it was water at first but it began to dry and basically everything was really sticky! but i kept doing the intervals in the end
Has this happened to anyone else?
