Which letter?
The shielding one probably.

There probably are. There's been a noticeable increase in HGV traffic to the food distribution depot near me, so even with the same drivers, I think they'd need more, and I wonder if driver training might be difficult to do while keeping one's distance.

As far as I am concerned anyone who moans about the supermarkets is simply selfish. We are not starving. Its pathetic what you are moaning about. We are not starving. What are essentials? It appears to be flour to bake. Soft toilet tissue.
I didn't mention soft toilet tissue and would anyone really disagree that flour is a basic food? Do you work for a supermarket? That might explain why you seem to think that people should be happy with the vast amounts of chocolate, crisps and biscuits that they've kept aisles full of throughout. That's good enough for us plebs, innit(?)

It's not just flour, though, is it? At times, everything from beans and rice to bananas and tomatoes have been missing.

And it's not that they haven't got everything in stock. It's that they're handling the shortages so badly, claiming stock they've not got and allowing bulk buying of shortage items.

No, we're not starving, but is "you're not dieing" really good enough service from the supermarkets?

Why would lorry drivers in particular be on the shielding list though?

One reason could be that lots of drivers are that bit older. Last summer (or possibly the one before) there was a bit of a hoo-haa about a shortage of drivers due to an aging workforce and younger people not going into the industry. I've not seen much to suggest that has been addressed - I know a couple of people with whatever the HGV licence is called this week and non of them are actively employed as drivers, primarily due to working conditions and poor money.
Plus it's a sedentary occupation which on its own leads to health issues that would trigger the shielding letters.

I guess, maybe heavy smokers with COPD? Diabetes and heart disease aren’t triggers for letter though

Not in particular, I was just saying I know two HGV drivers and both are off work, now spread that across the country and we have big numbers. Even our local courier driver who picks up from us often has a lung problem so is inside for 12 weeks.

Next time I talk to them I will ask why, I think one had a major operation last year.
