I live in a semi detached (standard size) and pebble dashed. Tina (wife) wants it painting , a local firm has said we need 142 litres , the paintable area is on 73 square meters, once you deduct the windows etc etc .
A litre of paint does roughly 3 square meters .
Do you agree with me that he has over estimated . I have taken all variables into account here .
Paint is Sandtex smooth masonry which is exspensive .

Did he miss-hear you and think that you asked for it to be bathed?

3 coats maybe, the quote does sound a bit excessive. Is he going to trowel it on, I would be looking for somebody who is going to spray it.

whilst I know nothing of sandtex, when indoor painting I allow a good bit extra yet still seem to need to buy more

You sure its not 142 sqm. Ie, two coats.

I'd say 50 litres max (10 tins) based on painting our 3 bed semi last year (I used 7 but we have a conservatory on the back so the wall area is a bit reduced) but ours is 'tyroleaned' so a pebbledashed/harled wall may have a greater surface area.

If the wall has not been painted before, i would think it'll soak in quite a bit and needing a lot more than the stated area quoted on the tin.

It's not painted , but the first coat is thinned down a fair bit , which ever way you look at it , it's too much paint . I will have to get another quote , and the painter said 3 coats , the tin says 2 is best . So I presume he means 2 after the initial base coat. I would normally do stuff like this myself , but I would have to take a week off work, and just don't have the time .
He is charging £1000 to paint it , and we provide the paint.
