Do it yourself, your being fleeced, just make the time, and then spend the money on a nice holiday or something for the house. You and your wife should be able to do that in no time.

I would not say that is fleecing, 5 days work if preparing properly and making good where required.

As others have said pebbledash must be 2 or 3 times the surface area of a flat wall. Another serious doubt, to expand on TMN's comment, is to be very careful on what kind of paint. Isn't sandtex some special waterproofish stuff, which might or might not be desirable. Some traditional materials are supposed to "breath" but if you seal it all up with special paint you could cause all sorts of problems eg dampness. 15 year guarantee, yeah right - good luck with that! Anyway I'd not do it

Painting a house for the first time that's been dry dashed can be a nightmare. It can use a massive amount of paint the first couple of coats to get the right coverage but will look magic if done correctly. If it's a bungalow, I wouldn't imagine any scaffolding being erected unless he has his own ally tower he may use on the gable ends. I still think he has overestimated the paint required, but if you are supplying it and have an on demand supply, surly you can just get it as he uses it? 1K, could also be considered excessive, so get at least one more quote. I'm also assuming your paying cash? If so, cash is still very much king and a great bargaining tool to the smaller operator.

Would that not be considered a bit black market? Out of interest how much would you want for say 5 days work, obviously the decorator has costs involved so it will not be all in his sky rocket.

Very difficult to say, I was in a very different trade but I do know that the top figure is sometimes worth way less to some as you might imagine, hence the booming alternative market.

There's only one gable end, as it's one half of a pair of semis. Might be better for the market value of the property to go for York stone cladding instead. ^_^
You do get such a thing as mid gables.

Is that what Vera Duckworth put on her house on Corrie?
